Hatred and Religion

Just read this article, and found it powerful. Actually, there were times I was near tears. Although I don't necessarily like the author's lumping gays in with alcoholics (as if sexual orientation is like an addiction), I get what he's saying. Very good. Christians--Buddhists--everyone--read! What do you think?

I'm Christian, unless you're gay.

I found this particular comment in response to the article quite revealing.

Come to think of it. I think many Christians, Muslims, etc etc think they are God's police force. Like somehow God is incapable of policing his own world. They think they have to narc on the world. Oddly enough, in the Christian bible. I believe it says Lucifer was the Great Accuser bringing accusation against the children of God night and day. So it makes one question, who exactly is the modern day Christian God if they are fulfilling the role of Lucifer?

Seems to me that the best way to show your beliefs is through love and kindness, who doesn't like some love and kindness. I'm pretty sure in my Bible it says to love everyone, I'm not a hippy or anything, but it seems like a good idea.

Personally I think it's ultimately futile to try to love everybody and to not feel hatred. Both are natural and selective emotions for us. Instead I feel we should reserve our love and our hatred for those who truly deserve it, regardless of appearance, gender, ethnicity, religion, sexuality etc etc.

It's fine to judge other people (both positively and negatively) but let's save it for something worth judging them about.
