Hatred as a political strategy

Kathryn

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
This is the old situation where each side believes the
other is wicked, hateful, & ready to destroy the country.
Take it from one who loathes both candidates.
Trump's campaign is based more in hatred & lies.
Sure, Harris uses hatred & lies too.
But the degree of Trump's using both is far greater.
This I observe.
If you don't live in a swing state, I heartily encourage you to vote for a third party.

Always do.
Keeping a treasonous, rapey, vicious, anti-constitution,
fascist, convicted felon out of the White House is where
my conscience steers me.
Excellent. Still not a swing state here by the way. Not even close. So I plan to write in a candidate.

It seems to me that hatred of others is an expression of justification of the self. The obsession with the 'wrongness' of others is an obsession with the illusion of our own righteousness. And because none of us are all that righteous, this obsession can never be honestly fulfilled. Which is how it becomes an obsession.

Peddling hate is just peddling the drug of false self-righteousness. It feels good in the moment, But because it is a lie, a delusion, the addict has to keep fighting with reality to try and maintain feeling good about themselves at the expense of others. Which will only drive them crazy in the end, as all obsession/addictions do.

I think hatred can take different forms. In some cases, it may be more of a vengeful hate, where someone feels directly wronged by someone else, so they hate the person who wronged them, but only that specific person for a specific reason. And it may only be temporary, as it can subside over time. I can still hate someone, yet still consider them my equal and still believe that they are human beings with rights.

When it comes to hatred of entire groups, that's a whole other kettle of fish, although it seems more a matter of indifference than anything else. It might be based on race, gender, ethnicity, sexuality, religion, class, or any number of other factors, but the bottom line is an attitude that some "other" group must be excluded or discarded or sent away somehow. They're not considered equal or even viewed as human beings. That's the worst kind of hatred.

Aaahhh, get back to your bong, hippy!
Being of the left-hand path persuasion, I will look for an excuse to break the fifth precept if it's been more than 6 months since I've broken it, but I don't use the bong to break the fifth precept. (Besides, Buddha said you can make yourself a ganja sauna to treat "wind ailments" for medicinal purposes without it counting against breaking the fifth precept.)

Mostly by the deranged left wing.
I take it you get your "news" from Fox and other right-wing sites and don't see stories like these which are racist attacks on LEGAL immigrants

‘Get them the hell out’: Trump continues attacks on immigrants in Ohio town

Trump Cheers On Sick Chant Against Legal Immigrants at Campaign Rally

Don’t scoff at the Hitler comparisons. Trump’s rhetoric is that bad.

( I will allow that some of Dementia Donald's words are from his deteriorating mental state but his supporters love the hate he's spewing)

Trump Calls Early Voting ‘Stupid Stuff’ Moments After Urging Supporters To Vote Early

Are they vetted or unvetted?

It appears it is easier to argue a drunk out of his keys at closing in a bar than explaining Trump to a supporter.
Are they vetted or unvetted?
Upon encountering the border patrol they begin the vetting process if they are not those who have been pre-vetted and allowed to fly into the country.
This is all done in compliance with US and international law. These numbers being reported are not what you seem to think they are.

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
The Haitians he was referring to were brought in legally under a US government program in 2018. When Trump was President. So I would assume vetted, unless Trump is an idiot. Wait.......
Then I would agree if vetted they stay if law abiding, if not, they go.

That is the point, these people are legal even under the rules that Trump supported, his claims to the contrary are his claims to make you think these people are somehow a problem while they are just normally law abiding persons.
Trump is gaslighting the American populace and too many are falling for it.

The OP was about hatred as a consuming addiction, not about MAGA hatred specifically, which was offered as an example. That was stated explicitly in the OP.

By post three, the thread was derailed by a whataboutism deflection bringing contention to the thread. The thread hasn't been about hatred yet- just who is doing more of the hating.

If you're a Harris supporter, it is because you are attracted to her joy and constructive message, and you hate the haters including both Trump and his followers who are drawn to his darkness, hid foreboding manner, and his lust for authoritarian power and revenge

If you're a Trump supporter, you support all of that hatred.

Did you know Trump hates you, too? He calls you basement dwellers:

"Trump calls his supporters ‘basement dwellers’, says former press secretary"
Trump calls his supporters ‘basement dwellers’, says former press secretary

I find there to be a difference between hating hate and hating just to hate. I see a difference between wanting to destroy a cancer and being and supporting that cancer.

You don't have to risk anything if you don't live in a swing state.
For the record, our friend @Revoltingest does live in one of the designated swing states and I assume is a registered voter in that state. One that is leaning slightly to Harris, but not enough to risk a "symbolic" vote.

But I encourage everyone, regardless of what state you are in, to cast a vote strongly rejecting the hateful, bigoted, anti-democratic candidacy of Donald Trump. Even if you live in the reddest red State in Reddonia, or the bluest blue State in Bluesystan. it still matters. When this election is over they will notice if your State that usually goes 70% red only went 55% this time, or if your State that usually goes 55% blue went 70% this time. It matters.

And your vote matters downstream. Are you voting for hate to be your representative in Congress, do you want hate to be your Governor? It matters.

No, I am voting for a third party. I generally support third parties.
