No, I have also not read it. My preference is for older writings the 10+ Mukhya Upanishads. The later books only repeat those ideas.
Furthermore, I do not see the necessity of having a guru. For me the older books have been enough. A guru can actually mislead you if you don't get the right one.
I am not one to be lead (I am not a sheep). I will find out anything that I want to know myself. My label clearly announces that - "Be your own guru".
The one from Skanda PurAN is only 108 shlokas.
It is very sweet and meaningful and one of the many Shiv-Parvati conversations where Shiva extols the Guru tattva (Principle) and truths about the Guru I can very much relate to.
It explains how to understand the Guru and what the Guru is and stands for.
The popular shloka Gurur BramhA Gurur VishNu Gurur devo Maheshwarah: |
Guruh: sAkshAt ParaBrahman tasmai Shri Gurave namah: ||
is from Guru Geeta of Skanda purAN and called Guru mantra, although a mantra that a Guru gives to their disciple is also called Guru mantra.
2. There is a section of Shri Gurucharitra that also carries the Guru Geeta shlokas -- they are very relevant because Gurucharitra is the life and avatAr kArya of 3 Kali-Yuga incarnations of Dattatreya, who is Guru Tattva in particular.
