He doesn't belong in politics!

California Rep. Steve Knight tells a protester, ‘I’ll drop your ***’ - The Washington Post

See how violent and thuggish some politicians are! People like him must be resocialized into modern civilized society!

Aggressiveness in politics is a big turnoff. One assumes grown people are capable of handling themselves without resorting to such unpleasant and threatening rhetoric.

What? Me worry?
Really? He looked the guy in the face and gave him fair warning. Most politicos are happy to blindside us. Sic 'em, Steve.

Meh. It seems like a legitimate thing to say. He probably shouldn't have said it but I don't think less of him for it. Hell I think its pretty awesome when a celebrity or anyone hounded by paparazzi punches a camera guy out. If he had threatened to shoot him or follow him home or anything like that I would not support him in it.

The recipient of the threat was literally shaking his hand. How on earth could an outburst like that be warranted?!

I wouldn't want a guy stupid enough to say something like that on camera to represent me. If he's dumb enough to let that slip, what else is he dumb enough to do?
You've rather have a smart politician lie to you than an honest one make a mistake?

Ummm ... straw man argument alert. When did I say that I would like to have any politician lie to me ... where did that even come from? He threatened a guy while he was shaking his hand for God's sake.

It depends on what the situation was. I doubt he was shaking his hand and suddenly threatened to punch him. I don't know what it was. Like I said I didn't say it was a good thing but I wasn't going to hold it against him for reacting to whatever it was that happened.

They have a video of it. He was just shaking his hand, complaining that he lied to him.

It seemed to me that the reaction was to him patting him on the shoulder. It was an *** thing to do by the protester but didn't warrant the reaction (just watched the video). Again I wouldn't throw the politician under the bus for that. Rather I would throw him under the bus for the reason people are protesting.

You said you didn't want someone stupid enough to say that on camera to represent you. That implies it's fine for him to say it in private or think it but not say it, which strikes me as somewhat dishonest (and is what most politicians do, hence this being "news"). That's what prompted my question.

Threats are not honesty. He wasn't expressing a point of view or opinion. He made a childish threatening remark in front of a camera. That is stupid any way you cut it. Where does honesty fit in, though? You seriously think it is dishonest to be civil?

I know right? On the other hand, it would be enjoyable watching our next president doing drop kicks on other world leaders.
