"He is the Chosen One...

The Kilted Heathen

Crow FreyjasmaðR
...that will bring balance to the Force, and destroy the Sith."

As much as I like Obi Wan Kenobi, he was a bit of an idealistic fool. After his fateful duel with Darth Vader (Anakin Skywalker,) he tearfully laments the following: "You were the Chosen One! It was said that you would destroy the Sith, not join them! Bring balance to the Force, not leave it in darkness!"

It's really hard to believe that he can't see the confliction in what he's saying. If someone - the Chosen One - is to bring balance to the Force, then there was a culling that needed to happen. Not of the Sith (there were only a handful of them) but of the Jedi, who outnumbered the Sith by hundreds. At the end of the movie, it's pretty much just Obi Wan and Yoda, Darth Sidious and Darth Vader.

Balance.

I think the Jedi are not thought out that well. Having mixed the ideas from Eastern spirituality and Western chivalry(itself a sort of confusing mix of ancient ideals and a new religion) while not going in depth in either on a philosophical level, there are bound to be conflicting or humorous lines like this.

well, what do you expect with a two-dimensional character played by a two-dimensional actor...using a two-dimensional script...Ohhhh! Let's have ANOTHER light saber battle!

Darwin is full of duck crap and so is your nonsense, the reality is that hobbits are prone to be hobbits. As such what they desire is the most is peace, good tilled soil beer with a propensity towards concerns of hobbits without the distractions of the larger world you see. Manifest destiny comes in many clothes voldermort hates the hobbits they are out of balance to his insanity... So your take is insanity must destroy truth and good if there is too much of it? That's exactly voldermort, sith, Hitler, sauron. The will to power destroys. I just call it self destruction. It takes a psychopath to see a psychopath. What is the sith, who are the jedi? Sith always believe they understand. the Jedi are slow sometimes but eventually they see the sith for what it is. Older than time itself. Which are you??

The whole notion that "good" and "evil" should be of equal proportions is nonsensical.
Or, that the difference is a perfect dichotomy, either-or exactly 50-50...I find that most of the universe is neutral/indifferent...maybe a few percent on either end of the spectrum could be called good or evil--depending on how they are defined--but I'm doubtful about either/both.

To be fair destroying the Sith is not necessarily bringing balance to the force. Light needs dark and the light sometimes needs to be quelled as well.

Exactly, that was my point; there were too many Jedi, unbalancing the Force. By the end of Vader's culling, there were two of each polar opposite (Sith and Jedi), and a mess of Grey Jedi in varying degrees between.

Equally the idea that anyone would want to be a Sith Lord is a stretch. Despite their attempts to make it look like the dark side seduces Annakin, none of it looks seductive. He plunges headlong into hate and suddenly becomes a child killer? It is not credible. Such strange malevolence is the only thing that makes Obi Wan's idealism fit the situation.
