The Devil's Advocate
Well he was wrong there, wasn't he? Take comfort in that.

He thought his victims would cower and he could just pick them off. Instead people risked their own lives to protect others.

He thought his actions would inspire a wave of hatred and violence. Instead people came together as never before. I have heard from many non-UUs who have said how impressed they were by our loving response to the shooting.

He was wrong about a lot of things.

Good point. What's interesting about these situations is that they almost never turn out the way that the attackers intend. Instead, what the attackers are providing is a tragic opportunity for people to show their best and most noble qualities.
