Heatwave

Jimmy

King Phenomenon
Everyone is so quick at jumping and saying that this heat wave is the result of climate change when it could just be a coincidence. 1937 Yuma Arizona was 100° for over 100 days. The heatwave for 27 days that just passed in Phoenix beat the 1974 record of 18 days in 1974. Heat waves are a part of life whether or not we create pollution. I’m not saying that climate change isn’t real all I am saying is if there was never pollution in the world would this heat wave have happened this year? Can you truly answer that?

I can't but there is a field in climatology that investigates just that.
What I can tell you is that if you have three heat waves in three years when you before had one heatwave per century, then at least two of those three are due to climate change.

People always mistake weather for climate. You are talking about local conditions in Phoenix in 1974. That is weather.

July is going to be the hottest month on record. Not in some local place, but globally. That is climate.

This heatwave is global. And it's something that hasn't happened in historical records. There's also no indication of it getting much better any time soon.

Thinking that because 'it's been hot or hotter in one's hometown before, therefore global climate change is doubtful' is myopic. Look at the big picture. That whole picture. If it doesn't concern anyone, well we're still in trouble, no matter who or what is correct or not.

Everyone take care during the heatwave. Keep hydrated, stay on your toes and keep it cool.

Oh I don’t doubt it. I’m talking about Phoenix though. Anyway thank god the lord has other plans anyway imo. Cuz we’re really messin things up. It will all be corrected no doubt.

Well, it's 114° in Phoenix right now. 106° in Tucson. Needles CA is at 117°.

It's pretty darn hot, a few degrees warmer than average. Not too bad for the desert. But the worst thing is that the usual summer rains we get this time of year have been conspicuously absent.

Not to mention the years-long drought conditions, manifested in things like Lake Mead's water levels receding. It will take years to recover, even assuming that we get extra rainfall and a bigger snowpack over the next several years (and we likely won't get that).

This is true to an extent, but it is the pattern of every increasing highs that confirms AGW. It is having a new hottest year ever every few years instead of every ten or twenty or longer. And global temperature highs are a bit different than local ones. Can we say that any one is definitely from AGW? No, but we know that it has played a major role in most of them these days.

Why believe that? When has God ever intervened to correct the actions of man?

Oh, we're getting them here in Michigan, let me tell ya.

It seems I spoke too soon, since we got a real humdinger of a rainstorm last night. Lost power for a while. Possibly more rain this afternoon, so at least we're getting something, although still quite a bit below average overall.
