Hello,
This is my second attempt at an introduction. The last one must have been erased completely.
Not sure what to say here. My religious background is that I was raised in a Christian home. My parents were and still are deeply religious. They both work at a Bible College.
I myself was very much a Christian for the majority of my life. I confessed Jesus as my Lord and Savior and truly believed that he was the Son of God, and that he was crucified, buried, and risen for my sins. I have a B.S. in Religion (Bible) from Liberty University. I also took two semesters worth of classes in Seminary with the goal of obtaining a Masters of Divinity.
However, I lost the motivation to complete seminary and switched schools and programs in order to work on my MBA.
Earlier this year, I watched the Ken Ham vs. Bill Nye debate on Creation vs. Evolution. I wasn't convinced by Bill Nye at the time of the debate, but some things he said got me to investigate a little further into evolution. I found a podcast on iTunes called, "Evolution 101." The host of that podcast did a four part series on the molecular evidence for evolution. Suddenly I needed more. There seemed to be more to evolution than I had originally understood.
After reading several books by authors like Richard Dawkins and Jerry Coyne, as well as watching several documentaries, YouTube videos, and searching through online resources, I became convinced that evolution is true. And that was a problem.
You see, unlike many Christians, I cannot harmonize a worldview in where both the Bible and Evolution are true. If one is true, then the other is not. So I began to take a closer look into the Bible and the arguments that I had for believing it.
I read about the Documentary Hypothesis, and the formation of the New Testament and the Synoptic Gospels. I read books by authors like Robert Price and Bart Erhman and listened to Podcasts like The Thinking Atheist and Reasonable Doubts. The Bible began to fall apart. I saw it for what it was, a human book, not a divinely inspired text.
Most of my free time now is spent studying things like evolution, physics, biology, the Bible and other religious world views. I hope by joining this forum that I can continue to learn new things. And maybe I'll be able to contribute something positive as well.
