Hello and help !

Hello there, everyone. I’m a Christian, but I’m also a writer, and at the moment I’m looking for some help regarding a book I’m writing about a gentle woman living in Bethlehem in 1937. The woman I’m writing about is stoned at the Wailing Wall in 1937. I’m aware that this was in the middle of the Palestinian revolt, but naive though I may sound, I’m actually unable to find information on whether women were at the time allowed to pray at the Wailing Wall regardless of their religion ?. I know a little about the woman I’m writing about, apart from the fact that she was a Christian, living with Jewish man married to another woman…. And went on a trip to the Wailing Wall. Can anyone help me at all?…. Reasons why the woman may have been stoned ?… I would be very very grateful for any help with this, as despite all the resources of the Internet I can’t find an answer to my questions !!

Shalom and welcome.

A few questions:
  1. You say that you "know a little about the woman." What is the source?
  2. You say that she was "stoned at the Wailing Wall in 1937." Stoned by whom? According to whom?

Ok- the woman was born in 1900, went to live in Jerusalem in 1928, with her lover ( who was married to another woman ). The woman’s daughter ( now 86) told me her mother was stoned - she did not tell me why. 86 year old daughter now won’t speak about her mother at all.

When did you first hear this story?

OK, so it seems like women could pray at the western, wailing wall. Apparently they could for centuries. What they could NOT do was take a Torah scroll into the area.

This was the impression I got Kathryn….im wondering why Gwen (my character )was stoned - I know there could be so many transgressions she committed, but I’m guessing it WAS NOT for being a woman….

Kathryn

It was on fire when I laid down on it.

Also men and women worshipped separately, and women were not allowed to pray out loud or wrap themselves in a prayer shawl as men could do.
