Hello Everyone!

I actually found this forum a while back, and have been reading a lot of the posts, but I'm just now joining in the discussion. I'm intensely curious about religion and people's perceptions of God or their supernatural deity(or deities) of choice. Religion wasn't really part of my life while I was growing up, and I always considered myself agnostic verging on atheist, until several experiences made me realize that I do believe in the existence of a higher power.

While I now consider myself Russian Orthodox (Christian), I do tend to be pretty nonstandard and liberal in my views, perhaps because most of my friends and family are not religious, and I'm still learning about the specifics of Christianity.

Hopefully I can further my knowledge of it and other religions by participating in this forum :)

Looking forward to getting to know y'all better!

Would you care to share your experiences that caused you believe in a higher power?

Uh ok... the main one isn't really that good of a story, but sure :)

I was visiting St. Isaac's cathedral in St Petersburg, Russia, and I hadn't really wanted to go because I thought going to churches to sightsee was pointless (I was 12, I have a better appreciation for architectural beauty now). Iside, I looked up at the dome and I just.... knew there was a God somehow. That's the best way I can put it... I've never been so suddenly certain of anything before or since, and that's why I trusted that feeling, because it was so unlike anything I've ever felt. I still feel some degree of that certainty whenever I'm in church, and calm, like someone is watching over me.

yep, thats pretty much it.

Thanks for welcoming me to the forum, everyone!

Hi, BioStudent! Welcome to RF. I have some good friends who are Russian Orthodox. We've always enjoyed discussing religion. I hope you enjoy yourself here.
