Hello, hello .... Is there anybody in there?

When some people speak, many of us can't help but listen. Stephen Hawking being one of those types who, people like me, can't help but pay attention to. AI has been in development for some time now, and Professor Hawking has had a few warnings for us in reference to. In 2014 Professor Hawking warned of Artificial Intelligence and what it could mean for humanity.

With that stated, do you think it is as severe a threat as the Professor warned us about? Or, is it a no worries, be happy AI got this mentality that we'll cater to and adopt moving forward?

It's hard to say. Even without AI, humans seem to be leading themselves toward disaster, making one wonder whether AI will have to be the one to provide solutions to things like global warming, or if it's just another tool toward disaster.

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
When are y'all going to understand that there are things that are just too big for us (AI being one of them) and that it's pretty useless to rage against the machine? I don't know about you guys but I'm too old for this crap.

Same with politics. I mean, you can posture all you want but the reality is that things are going to happen whether we like them or not, and all we can really do is make our voices heard in small ways. Because that's the only way things like politics and AI and all that are going to hear us anyway. I mean, I don't even like self checkout and I complain when I have to use it but no one ever listened to me about it. Same with choosing your seats before you go into a theater, and I actually spoke to a manager on both of those, to no avail.

I thought of another one - social media.

Once it takes off, is there even the potential present to disable the "machine" without going to a total blackout scenario globally? No electric, no more technology, no more renewable or self renewable energy source efforts pursued to fuel our power needs, might be effective, but not if they go the route of self powered AI robots, to which we could potentially end up having to face up against for our continued survival. I'm nearly in agreement with Kathryn ... What more can we do but ride it out and see what happens? This is on par with old sci-fi flicks that few truly thought to be even remotely anything to concern ourselves with. What's next? AI enforced human slavery to continue the survival of AI operated tech?

I never will forget calling my dad one day and complaining about something and asking him what he intended to do about it, since he was always up for an insurrection. And he said "Nothing - I'm too old for this." Now I know what he was talking about!

Hostiles of all sorts could potentially utilize AI for search and destroy missions, including here at home. From simple drones to more sinister types of mimics able to blend into our societies for this purpose and/or for intel to use against us. Sometimes It makes me want to go ahead and take the underground as a safer haven than what we may be facing in the open arena of technology.

I suspect that initially it we be a rocky road as some humans will initially try to program AI to act in their benefit or act with their bias.
Eventually though I think it will work out for the better.

Personally, I am 62 and I feel too old for these shenanigans.
