Hey folks,
I'm a twenty two year old college student who is about to graduate from a small liberal arts school. I'm a philosophy major with a minor in English. I'm a lover of logic and proper argumentation.

I'd probably most aptly be described as a cynical atheist but I also have some Pantheistic intuitions. I attended a number of churches as youth on my own and then later attended a methodist church for a few years (edit: with my mother) but never have agreed with common conceptions of God. My father was raised Christian but seems to have given up on those beliefs (though he never really discussed it too much...I think he wanted my brothers and I to come to our own conclusions).

In person I'm rather quiet and prefer to express myself through writing...consequently I may not come off as quiet and mild mannered through these forums but I assure you that I mean only to learn. I hold nothing against believers but only wish them to hold beliefs that are internally consistent. By attacking their beliefs I attempt to push them towards a clearer conception of their religious belief (I don't wish to dissuade people from being religious or believing in God).

Welcome! I tend more towards pantheism than strict theism or atheism (although I believe that the former describes me slightly better than the latter). Glad to have you here.

Thanks for the welcome everyone...Bryson - my main problem with fully committing to something like Pantheism is that I'm nervous to assign a special recognition to what I might otherwise simply call the natural order of things. While I believe there is sort of a religious unity you can feel by bringing yourself in line with this order I'm not sure if it anything beyond the natural (and I'm not sure how fully committed Spinoza (one of the founding pantheists) truly felt about it). Of course, I can't talk to him and only can communicate with him through the writing he left (which I think is spectacular, though it's difficult to tell how restricted he was in his writing - he was excommunicated for his beliefs after all)...
