..the fact that they 'reject Jesus' does not take away from their humanity..

No offence to anybody but you force me to list what the Bible calls them-
"dogs, pigs. " (Matt 7:6)
"weeds" (Matt 13:38 )
"brute beasts," (2 Peter 2:12)
"heathens" (Jer 10:2)
"fools" (Psa 94:8 )
"liars" (1 John 2:22/23)
"defiled" (Titus 1:15)
"filthy" (Rev 22:11)

This all makes me glad I'm a DWBHist; we only recognize two catagories of people and they are;
Reasonable Human Beings
and
The members of the Society of Holier Than Thou Hypocrites and Egomaniacal Apostles of the Double Standard.

God recognizes only two categories of people- those who reject his son, and those who don't..;)

..is this a reasonable or fair way of choosing friendship?..

Is what reasonable or fair mate? Sorry but I got lost halfway through your long post..;)
"The more the words, the less the meaning, and how does that profit anyone?" (Ecc 6:11)

Anyway the issue is plain and simple- We make friends with people who we like, and if somebody rejects Jesus I'd have a very difficult time liking them..

waymarker you seem to already know what to do by the scriptures your quoting... another one ..whoever loves mother, brother father or son more than me is not worthy of me.

..perhaps you just love being right and being agreed with like many of the rest of us..

Nah, I just go my own way regardless, and people can either come along for the ride or get left behind, what do i care?

Exactly mate, we can't back down or compromise an inch in anything we do in life because this is not a game, our very souls are at stake-
"Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling" (Philip 2:12 KJV)
Christianity is all about POWER and I'm hoping it'll rub off on people through my posts-
".. our gospel came to you not simply with words, but also with power.." (1 Thess 1:5)

And as long as I get feedback like the two examples below I know I must be doing something right..:)-

First from a demon speaking through the mouth of a possessed woman in another net forum to warn its mates-
"Mick's a tough nut to crack folks. Don't mess with that one"

And secondly from somone else in another forum-
"Mick, I would like you to know that the result of reading your posts I am left with the desire to pick up my bible for the first time in years"

How about this feedback:
That Mick's a real good guy. Underneath that gruff exterior and self-righteous religious intolerance, there's a real sweetheart looking for approval.

That seems pretty accurate.

Is it reasonable or fair to not be friends with someone (or to dislike them, as you say) because they have a different opinion on topics that are inherently speculative, such as the mythical vs. historical character of Bronze-age scrawlings.

True, but it is not reasonable, or useful or constructive, to dislike people for arbitrary reasons, or because they have harmless traits which they themselves cannot help, e.g. because they cannot bring themselves to believe the particular miracle stories which originated in ancient Palestine, or because they have dark skin, or because they are tall or short, etc.

This story is for you, Waymarker. It is from the book of Matthew- as we know, Matthew was the title of Levi, who was a tax-collector. He became an Apostle of Jesus. :)

9:10 And it happened as Jesus reclined in the house, behold, many tax-collectors and sinners came and were reclining with Him and His disciples.
Mat 9:11 And when the Pharisees saw, they said to His disciples, Why does your master eat with tax-collectors and sinners?
Mat 9:12 But when Jesus heard, He said to them, The ones who are whole do not need a physician, but the ones who are sick.
Mat 9:13 But go and learn what this is, I will have mercy and not sacrifice. For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance

Wow. Just.... wow.

I know, someone tries to be nice and extend a hand of friendship and it gets turned around on them, spat on and defiled. It can be very hard to remember that there really are good Christians out there who would love to put aside petty differences in hopes of dispelling misconceptions on both sides of the conversation.

That stuff about giving the prostitute is probably a lie, i think you're lying... You're saying you would let a prostitute a bed for the night, but you would not be freinds with a non-christian. I woulld never expect this from a fellow Englishman. The Isles do not need people who think we are not worthy of you.

This has to be the worst topic I've ever read on this forum.

I have an idea who it was who tried to befriend the OP, because there was someone a couple months ago who befriended me when I joined, without me ever having posted anything.

I didn't know anything about anyone here, they recognized that and it made me feel welcome.

I am sickened that this unsolicited and generous gesture was turned into something so ugly and vile that the OP had to broadcast it to everyone.

..And broadcast his righteousness, his holiness, his perfection, his accolades from other people (cut and paste from a file he made on himself? Impressive!)...

The thread could have been made more general, instead it's a 16-page testimony of the OP's complete self-absorption and self-importance, and a public rejection of a welcoming gesture.

You know who you are, 2 people immediately befriended me upon my joining this forum: I thank you, and I am sorry this occurred.

P.S. A friend on an internet forum is not someone you will hang out with; in addition, no.... really really not likely that a Satanist will use your internet forum "friendship" as some kind of bragging right, or blackmail. That's ridiculous. Think of it as someone else opening an opportunity for you to show the way to Jesus.

This post will probably get deleted for off-topic but I'm hitting submit anyway. Sorry everyone.
