I'm extremely happy that at the end of the article there was a graphic that showed that the population is losing confidence in trump.

That seems to me to be the most important point - we cannot let lies become normalized.

What gets me is that we all know what a liar he is, yet many people (Republicans) don't care.

Q. Want a liar for a President?

A. Why not? What difference does it make? As long as he supports my stand on X he can be an ax murderer for all I care.

Lying is acceptable now. Get over it.
Maybe in your camp, but not mine.

Wow, one almost gets the feeling that Trump is the only person alive who has never told the truth.
Well, he's probably one of the few who makes up such silly lies and lies so easily checked. Just take his continued insistence (for several days) that more people turned out on the mall for his inauguration than for any other President.

Jan. 25 “Now, the audience was the biggest ever. But this crowd was massive. Look how far back it goes. This crowd was massive.” (Official aerial photos show Obama's 2009 inauguration was much more heavily attended.)
Or other stupid lies. Lies he had no reason to make, but had to because it's in his nature.

Feb. 6
“The failing NYTimes was forced to apologize to its subscribers for the poor reporting it did on my election win. Now they are worse!” (It didn't apologize.)

May 13
“I'm cutting the price of airplanes with Lockheed.” (The cost cuts were planned before he became president.)

June 21
“Right now, we are one of the highest-taxed nations in the world.” (We're not.)

I would if he didn't have the power he does. He's the &*&^*$# # President of the United States for crying out loud and he conducts himself like a bratty 11 year old. He is one scarrrry dude.

And I promise you that when all this blows over and he's no longer in office there will be twice as many books written about him than there have been about Lincoln. . . . . . and in the first two years no less. I can even see "Trump" becoming a wash-your-mouth-out-with-soap expletive.

You still believe polls like these are accurate?

Seeing as the MOE was 3.2%, it shows pretty much no change and might even be within MOE when rounding is taken into account (probably just outside though). This is also counting on the MOE being accurate, which it is not (none are).

Also, it was a direct personal interview poll (rather than impersonal written), which during the election consistently underestimated Trump support.

The sample is also overweighted towards Democrats, which requires them to do some more 'scientific' number fudging or 'balancing' to make up for the uneven response rate from different groups.

All the narratives constructed based on such polls being accurate are BS. You could use the same data to say 'Allegations of lying have negligible effect on Trump's honesty ratings' and it would be equally 'right'.

Polls are the bane of modern political reporting, and are basically fake news most of the time as they should be reported as being inconclusive rather than showing some dramatic narrative trend.

That seems to me to be the most important point - we cannot let lies become normalized.

The poll could be showing lies becoming normalised though, you are just seeing what you want to see in the data.

Do you think elected officials deliberately telling misleading and false information is acceptable? I don't think it is, but I hold that principle across the board, not just with Trump.

Politicians, on the whole, probably lie more easily and freely than the average mortal. It's a tradition that has carried on since the dawn of time. What is different about Trump is that he is so obvious about it. I remember well, putting out fires with my mom, she had heard Obama on the news talking about whatever and had her hair on fire. It generally took a long winded reply to explain why he wasn't really lying and that he was simply leaving out anything that contradicted his narrative. Disingenuous sure, but not an outright liar.

I also recall a poll showing how Saint Hillary was the most truthful politician of our time. What was jaw-dropping was that she was telling the truth 20% of the time, 1/2 truths 30% and was savagely distorting and lying for all the rest. And she was the best, LOL. o_O:eek::D

Humorously, all Republicans were far worse, of course. Yep, no bias, whatsoever.

In before the Hillary/Obama straw-man.

I guess it's just my inherent need to keep the right wing hating alive or summin'...
Heaven forbid anyone admit there is truth in what I am saying.
That would disrupt the meme in play.

"I guess it's just my inherent need to keep the right wing hating alive"

I think Trump does that well enough by himself.

Don't rock the boat!
There'll be a new rule banning disruption of the echo chamber some day.
