I guarantee that dog would rather have some bacon.
Yup. Silly hue-mahns and their silly valuing of shiny things with no real practical value or purpose. A piece of bacon and a rope to play tug of war with would no doubt make that dog far happier than something it won't be allowed to chew on.I guarantee that dog would rather have some bacon.
Tom
Many of them do die. And this poor guy took a bullet and lost his paw. Better to just quit forcing animals to be bullet fodder and exposing them to dangers that humans won't take. Its good they are recognizing Kuno, but facts are they still exploited his characteristics as a dog to throw a living being in harms way (and a dog's instinct and nature, like most animals, is not to charge head first into danger but run and take cover over the chaos and noise).I don't know much about the mission... but that's a brave dog, and we can celebrate that much and that they didn't die.

not any shortcoming of the dog.
Which proves how little value reason has.Animals aren't 'brave', they're just well trained. If that dog could reason I'm pretty sure he would have said "Bite him yourself, Jody...".

Most dogs are better than most people.
Dogs can reason, but yes this is all to do with training. It happens to people quite often, today and throughout history. Dogs are just usually (amd tragically exploited) more obedient and devouted than people. Cognitively, it is not much different than taking advantage of a child who does things with a sense of obedience and wanting to please and gain approval.Animals aren't 'brave', they're just well trained. Deliberately taking a dog into combat is animal abuse, IMO.

Much like those who utilize them?Animals aren't 'brave', they're just well trained.
It's been demonstrated numerous times they can. Nova's episode about dogs (the one hosted Niel DeGrasse Tyson) even features a simple demonstration of a dog's ability to reason by identifying a toy the dog had preciously not been exposed to (a Darwin doll) in a pile of toys the dog when, accuretly selecting the Darwin doll when asked to fetch "Darwin."Suuuure they can....
