Heroic army dog receives well-earned medal

I guarantee that dog would rather have some bacon.
Tom
Yup. Silly hue-mahns and their silly valuing of shiny things with no real practical value or purpose. A piece of bacon and a rope to play tug of war with would no doubt make that dog far happier than something it won't be allowed to chew on.
I don't know much about the mission... but that's a brave dog, and we can celebrate that much and that they didn't die.
Many of them do die. And this poor guy took a bullet and lost his paw. Better to just quit forcing animals to be bullet fodder and exposing them to dangers that humans won't take. Its good they are recognizing Kuno, but facts are they still exploited his characteristics as a dog to throw a living being in harms way (and a dog's instinct and nature, like most animals, is not to charge head first into danger but run and take cover over the chaos and noise).

Yep, a heroic dog that followed orders/training and went above and beyond. There may be debatable issues with other aspects of the story, I don't know... but all further details would point to politicians and generals and so on if so, and not any shortcoming of the dog.

What? Me worry?

Animals aren't 'brave', they're just well trained. If that dog could reason I'm pretty sure he would have said "Bite him yourself, Jody...".

Dogs can reason, but yes this is all to do with training. It happens to people quite often, today and throughout history. Dogs are just usually (amd tragically exploited) more obedient and devouted than people. Cognitively, it is not much different than taking advantage of a child who does things with a sense of obedience and wanting to please and gain approval.

Suuuure they can....
It's been demonstrated numerous times they can. Nova's episode about dogs (the one hosted Niel DeGrasse Tyson) even features a simple demonstration of a dog's ability to reason by identifying a toy the dog had preciously not been exposed to (a Darwin doll) in a pile of toys the dog when, accuretly selecting the Darwin doll when asked to fetch "Darwin."

Much like those who utilize them?

Hopefully...

Well, that solves that....

Soooo...you've met all of each?

Here's just one of many many liss.

1. They’re happier than humans.

2. Eat. Sleep. Play. Repeat. (I’d always be happy, too.)

3. Dogs can’t screw up as a best friend. They are the ultimate companion.

4. Pups are always willing to cuddle. Who needs a significant other when you have a puppy?

5. They look good in collars, unlike children.

6. Dogs listen to your problems, and they don’t interrupt.

7. If they don’t like you, they bite you. No one likes passive aggressive humans anyways.

8. Dogs are protective and extremely alert. They have much better senses than people do.

9. Even if they smell, they’ll still be loved.

10. And even if they’re ugly, they’re still cute.

11. Did I mention they can’t talk?

12. They don’t judge you.

13. They’re the ultimate wingman/woman. Nothing says, “I’m datable” like having a cute dog by your side.

14. “They can lick their own butts.” – Anonymous guy I asked regarding the topic.

15. Dogs always show unconditional love.

16. They’re always loyal to you. It's not like they can make plans without you...

17. They’re not picky where they poop or pee ... public restrooms aren’t always our favorite. Imagine the grass?

18. Dogs don’t spend money on food, their owners do it for them. #Goals

19. Dogs are all selfless. Not all people are.

20. You can name them funnier names than the basic “Ashley” or “John.” Try “Chubby” and “Banjo,” which are so much cooler.

21. They don’t have to bathe every single day.

22. Or brush their hair.

23. Or brush their teeth.

24. Sounds gross, but dogs are just so carefree.

25. They don't have to drive anywhere. Personal chauffeurs for life.

26. People voluntarily play with their hair all the time.

27. Their biggest trouble is having an itch.

28. People only stay mad at dogs for like two minutes.

29. Dogs don't have to work or have any responsibilities.

30. Oh, and best of all, dogs don’t have college tuition.
