As long as Hamas had kept sending rockets into Israel, the latter had the right to respond.

I'm tired of the mantra.

Of course they have a right to respond, but let's make crystal clear what you're inferring, i.e.:

As long as Hamas had kept sending rockets into Israel, the latter had the right to respond irrespective of the devastating effects on civilian life and civilian infrastructure.

No one is endowed with such a right.

My mindset is one of wanting Israel to live in peace with its neighbours, and making
reparations with the Palestinians.
It has shown that it is not willing to do that, so..

It’s easy,if the hostages are returned,Hamas Hezbollah etc recognise Israel’s statehood the go to the peace table and then the rebuild of Gaza can begin but Hamas has shown many times it is not willing to do so.
