Hit on by the wrong gender

If you have been hit on by someone of the gender you are not attracted to, how have you responded and why? Or how might you respond if it were to happen?

Personally, I just take it as a compliment if a woman finds me attractive and thank them but simply tell them that I'm straight. I just don't understand why some people take offense at this.

If you do take offense, could you explain why?

I have once or twice, usually tell them I am not their type. They are usually pretty cool about it.

I just take it as compliment and verification that the person hitting on me has no taste in men.
You might be surprised by how many of us prefer a masculine grownup to a twinky 20ish gymrat :)
I'm not sure how to answer the question though. It's been so many years I don't really remember. I don't often go to the kind of places you get hit on without Doug being with me.

Many years ago, I worked for a brief while as a cocktail waiter in a gay bar. I was totally impressed with the polite, frank, but considerate, and generally non-offensive way in which almost all the gays who hit on me hit on me. I remembered thinking, "Straights could learn a thing or two about hitting on women from these guys". There was almost never anything rude, crude, or obnoxious about how someone hit on me.

I have some attraction to men (I'm mostly heterosexual), but I tend not to appreciate being hit on by the ones who end up hitting on me and their sometimes crude and rude comments. Depending on the person, I either tell them off, ignore or turn it into a joke. I generally prefer not to be hit on by guys at all.

I don't even like getting hit on by men half of the time. Maybe it's just my experience, but when people try too hard to hit on people, it kinda comes across as really creepy.

Like, "Hey boy, wanna be with a daddy?" kind of creepy.

I've actually never been hit on by a woman, if I recall correctly.

I react the same as I do with my preferred gender(I'm only interested in the opposite). If showing no interest doesn't do it I tell them I'm not available. If they continue after that, well that's just as awkward if they are the opposite gender...

I've seen your picture, you're cute. I'd make a pass at you. :p Then again, I am just a wee bit of a flirt. Just a little. A smidgen. ...Oh, who am I kidding, I'm a huge flirt. :D

After reaching a certain age you may find any attention flattering.
Yeah, tell me about it, eh. I'd prolly react with, "Oh, you are so cute. That's sweet, but <insert inoffensive reason here>."

Basically I'm a predominately gay pansexual so I don't really have a "wrong gender". If someone unattractive seems into me I still tend to find it flattering unless they're way older I guess.

Nope, never before. But I did receive such non sexual oriented compliments from men and I showed appreciation.

I would play along with a sense humor and not take it seriously, and if I see them serious and honest about it, I'd apologies with good spirit and a smile that I'm not a homosexual. I wouldn't take is offensively unless it is meant to degrade and violate me. Never happened to me in reality tho.

It doesn't bother me at all, I simply turn it down right away in a friendly manner... has bothered some guys I've known who didn't have much exposure to the world and felt they must have been putting off some type of "Gay Vibe" - not realizing people of whatever persuasion all have varying tastes and/or "gaydar" isn't always accurate :D
