Hobbies

So I am kicking myself now that I have told a friend that I could crochet. I wasn't thinking when she asked me if, when I crocheted, could I crochet names into my works. When I said, "Yes," the next thing I knew, yarn was being thrown at me with a specific pattern. Zebra with pink and white stripes.
So silly me, having never done anything complex in all my crocheting history(the most complex thing I ever crocheted was a teddy bear) I decided to make a pink and white striped crib blanket with a black and white zebra centered on a pink background, followed by a white edging. I only have a month to finish it.

I am not sure I can call it a hobby anymore, as it is now something I have burdened myself with. HAHA. Hobbies are not supposed to be burdens. They are supposed to be fun and relaxing! Maybe when I am done with this blanket I can go back to simple and easy...like stuffies. Yay!!! Stuffies!!!!

So now that I am using this forum as a hobby to escape the blanket, I decided to ask:

What hobbies do you partake in when you want to relax and get back to who you are?

First of all, I have to say...that sounds amazing! I wish you luck with that.

I enjoy singing and makeup artistry, though the latter is not my profession - it's just a hobby. I have a dresser full of cosmetics and it's ridiculous but I waste nothing. I also enjoy writing and bellydance, but I'm not as disciplined for the latter as I used to be.

I like to sing, dance, read, and play video games. I did discover yesterday that if I ever put my mind to it I could probably start drawing as a hobby. For some reason I have yet to figure out, while I was watching tv I grabbed a piece of paper and a pencil and started sketching a tree. I wasn't paying that much attention to what I was doing and I've always said I can't draw...but it turned out pretty nice. I've never taken any art classes except what was mandatory in elementary and jr high school. Maybe I should.

Thanks I could use all the luck I can get.

I like singing myself. Makeup artistry...not so much. I think the most makeup I wear is chapstick. I have never been able to get into makeup wearing. My mother got this older girl to teach me how to wear it, she had me so plastered in makeup, I looked like a cheap hooker.
I enjoy reading more than writing(watching my posts should indicate as much:)) and as for dancing...I am awesome at chair dancing

I could never draw on demand either, but when I just picked up paper and pencil and started doodling, what ever I doodled came out looking pretty good

Okay, now as I said, I've never claimed I could draw decently, quite the opposite in fact, but here's at least the tree part of the random drawing I did yesterday. It's not great, but far better than I expected out of myself considering most things I draw look like something my kids could have done :p (I'm NOT kidding) This looks like something you might see as an illustration in a children's book or something. I have no idea where this came from out of me.

Magic. It is also my profession, but reading about the history of magic, about new tricks/effects/illusions that are coming out on the market, or about obscure magicians or techniques, has always been relaxing for me. Not to mention just the manipulation of cards or other small objects. That is why I also made it into a profession.

I also do quite a bit of writing, and reading. I'm thinking about taking up drawing as well. My wife is going to school to become an art teacher, and I'm thinking of having her help with my learning. I also have to take an art course to finish my degree, so I think it may just be my newest hobby.

OK, first off, RUDE! I would have quoted her $15/ hour.

As most regular chatters know by now, I'm an avid knitter.

I didn't know you're a magician!

Great hobby to have. I'm interested in the psychology behind magic tricks and illusions. I've got a few bits and pieces that I use in front of my pupils to demonstrate how the mind can be deceived into accepting things that aren't really there.

I'm planning to get into crafting amulets and pendants from deer antler soon (I'm moving house in Feb, and I'll have a garage in which I can work). There are plenty of naturally shed antlers where I live, and I figure I can cut and polish sections and thread them. I wear a cut piece of reindeer antler (from Finland) around my neck, which gave me the idea of using local red deer antlers to craft my own versions.

No. :p not that talented. My avie is actually a picture I took with my phone. It has different styles you can use and a sketch is one of them. So that isn't a real sketch of me, it's a real picture, just done as a sketch...if that makes sense. :p

Race marshalling. :D

I'm serious - when I'm at the track, doing nothing but watching the cars, I get in a weird state of mind: alert and ready to move if I need to, but also contemplative and almost meditative. Kinda like enzan no metsuke, if that makes sense.
