Horrible drivers!

Is your area full of bad drivers? My city is.

They're terrible. Hanging on turns, jumping the curb and hitting people (or their SUV flips up on the curb and crushes someone), not stopping for police and emergency services, trying to rush you through the crosswalk when you can't walk that fast, speeding up when you're crossing the street, people going the wrong way down a one-way street, hitting animals, buses running over people, etc. That's an everyday thing here. When there's snow or it's raining, it only gets worse. "Oh, the road is wet/icy? Cool, I'll speed up!". o_O

They're insane. I don't have a car and I'm always afraid in the back of my mind that I'm going to get hit, even on the sidewalk and at the bus stop. The traffic laws favor drivers over pedestrians, as well. "Watch for turning vehicles" and all that crap. I've almost been hit a bunch of times. This one dumb lady in a van got so close to me that her grill was up against my leg. Then they get mad when you cuss at them. I had a yuppie ***** in a parking lot almost hit me and she actually followed me for a while in her car to berate me for cussing at her. Wtf. What the hell is wrong with these people? I don't recall such horrible driving when I was in San Francisco. Ohioans, what's wrong with you?!

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
Most of my time is spent in Canada and I swear the GTA drivers are just like Boston mass. No sense or inkling of self preservation whatsoever.

Even NYC has more conscientious drivers with at least some survival instinct and that includes Queens and Brooklyn.

The drivers that really **** me off are those who, while sitting at a light when it turns green, don't move immediately and/or slowly creep through the crossing, so when the light cycles back to red a lot of people who could've made it through are stuck at the same damn light for another cycle. People who don't signal properly also **** me off, as do cyclist who ride against traffic and foot pedestrians who walk/jog with traffic.

The drivers here are almost too polite. Have no complaints. Compared to the last two cities I've lived in, this is pedestrian paradise, lol.

Most drivers here are ok, though the stop start motorways and the dodgem car (lane swapping) it creates are an annoyance, the tourists who do not know our road rules
and cause crashes are a problem however ...

I hate them. If I didn't pay attention, I would have been in a ton of wrecks by now.

Or how about the drivers at lights that wait for a three or four car lengths gap before they start to move so only a few cars get through the light.

I've driven in LA a few times (from when I lived in San Diego) and believe it or not, even rush hour, it does not come close to comparing to St. Louis. I've driven in Jacksonville FL, Memphis TN, and several other large cities across the U.S. and nothing, NOTHING, comes close to the seat gripping fear of driving through St. Louis.

I might be driving past St Louis sometime soon on my way to San Diego.
I'll stay on the highway & avoid stopping there.

The highways through St. Louis are probably the worst I've ever driven. Fricken 12 packed lanes of angry madness.

I'll definitely shoot for the wee hours of the morning to skate thru that place.
I worked with a bunch'o McDonnell Douglass contractors who spent time
in St Louis in the 70s. They said it a high crime hellhole (even back then).

You'd do well to avoid it if possible, or at least do what you plan and aim for wee hours kind of thing.

I don't like driving in cities in general. Too cramped and crowded. I drove in New York City once, and that was particularly awful.

The majority of people consider themselves to be above average drivers, which is funny. But people overrate themselves in most categories, studies show.

We need more/stricter driving laws. :D

So much craziness is caused by people tending to be too lazy to get ready and on the road 15 minutes early. Definitely one of the things that adds towards my dislike for large cities.

@Draka I was surprised how bad St. Louis is. Where Frank lives it's kinda got a similar style of crazy but not such a huge amount of it.

I think there is a fair share of bad drivers here, but for the most part I think the issue is more rude drivers. People who seem to think they are more entitled to drive and park where they want when they want how they want and screw you if you think you and your legal driving practices are going to change that. That's what bugs me the most really. It's like people get their cars and any sense of courtesy or sharing or kindness is left on the ground.

My city is a tough one for unfamiliar drivers due to the road rules, specifically 2...

1) We have trams which share roads with cars, and need to be given way to when stopping, etc. On suburban roads in particular this can involve lots of start stopping, merging, etc.
2) Hook turns!! Also due to the trams, we have a number of intersections in the city where a right hand turn is made from the left hand lane. Picture that in your head, and insert an unfamiliar driver...rofl.
