How bad is the anti-trans movement going to get?

"Currently in two states it is illegal to be trans."
The Text to a long boring document

Missouri actively has an AG order with new guidelines that state that depression, autism and anxiety need to be resolved before gender affirming care for adults can be reached. However the rates for these in trans adults are astronomically higher than the average population. It also requires them to go through years of a new process in which they need to start *now* and will have to detransition for in the time being. It is being litigated in the courts right now and they have some time to "comply". Texas and Florida both are enacting similar decrees however they are not yet enacted. Missouri also has a Texas abortion style hotline for anyone who might be a "secret trans" that can be reported. Thankfully I believe it is down currently since it was inundated with fake calls from activists.

Short and sweet. Says cross dressing in public is illegal. Words on paper would indicate that it would have to be provocative or professionally done in some way but what is determined to be a "male or female impersonator" is purely speculative by the enforcer of the law in that moment and opens the door to harassments and legal action against any trans person in a public place presenting as their gender.

I can hear it now about how these laws don't say "being trans is illegal" in the black and white. And you are correct. But both of these states have blanket legislation that in any particular case of transgender expression these laws could be used against them. They are far reaching enough that they could hit any trans person that isn't safely hiding in the closet if they wanted. Not that they are actively pressing down the head of every single trans person (though almost in Missouri and Florida they are getting there).

It would be better to claim the states are oppressive,
explain how, & link evidence. That would be useful.

It's much like the Jim Crow-type laws that many of the "red states" have passed to hinder the non-white vote. And today's Republican Party is still supporting the twice-impeached insurrectionist con man, and the "religious right" have embraced him far more than they've embraced Jesus as Trump's hate is dominating over Jesus' love as they go through the ritual of religion.

My guess is it will likely get bad, since this is a cultural issue being enflamed by politicians looking for votes through fear. The hope is that, like the abortion issue, legislation against trans folks is unpopular; too many people know and care about a trans person. Eventually, it appears likely that trans rights will prevail, but I fear for the folks who will suffer in the meantime.

Want to know how bad it could get?
  • Neo-nazi extremists are targeting drag-themed events in multiple states (Ohio, Florida) – and yes, waving Swastika flags and all dressed in red (with their faces covered to show their bravery, of course).
  • Ohio Republicans are working on legislation to target queer people, and isn’t it nice to know that you have the backing of American nazis.
  • Blue states, on the other hand, are trying to give comfort and help to LGBTQ+ communities. Minnesota’s Governor Tim Walz has signed a bill offering refuge to those seeking gender-affirming care or abortion, as has Washington State’s Governor/ Colorado and New Mexico Governors have signed “shield” laws.
  • Idaho has become very extreme, even passing a law to try to prevent people leaving Idaho to get the care they need, and threatening to go after doctors in other states who offer care to Idahoans.
  • Washington State has told Idaho to its face that it will not be intimated, and will glady provide welcome and care . Washington’s Governor wrote to Idaho’s begging him to veto the latest bill. But he also said, “Regardless of your decision on this bill, we welcome Idaho’s patients and health care providers with open arms in Washington. And as we did during COVID, we will care for your residents in a manner consistent with their health care needs as determined by trained medical professionals, not politicians. But, make no mistake, Governor Little, the laws of another state that seek to punish anyone in Washington for lawful actions taken in Washington will not stand. We will protect our providers, and we will harbor and comfort your residents who seek health care services that are denied to them in Idaho.”

Anybody see a little inter-state warfare brewing?
  • Further to that, Washington has enacted abortion protections to counteract red state laws, preventing law enforcement officials and courts in Washington from aiding other states’ abortion-related investigations. It blocks police and courts in WA from assisting other states’ investigations into gender-affirming care, and protecting doctors from disciplinary consequences if they provide care in violation of another state’s laws, and protecting cell-phone data from being shared by other states investigating what they see as “crimes.”
  • Arizona GOP bill would force teachers to out LGBTQ+ students to their parents. Hey, so what if dad is a bigot and throws the kid out on the streets! And they’ve backed a bill that would ban books like “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings,” (Maya Angelou) “1984” (Orwell) and “The Great Gatsby” (Fitzgerald) because they contain frank descriptions of sex and sexuality. The bill, as crafted, would make it illegal to even teach that homosexuality exists in Arizona.
  • A group in Arizona, Family Watch International, was consulted on the above, but they have also been very busy providing support to Uganda in legislating almost the most draconian anti-gay legislation in the world.
All this, from the religious right, practicing the “Love of Christ” as they (mis-)understand it. Yep, it could get very, very bad indeed before somebody wakes up and gives them the required slap in the face to bring them to their senses.

How about this: the party of small government and personal liberty has taken upon itself the choice of treatment for gender dysphoria, including the dosage, and directing the care of the sufferer by the sufferer's medical care team.

Also, the right to play on any sports team is tied to gender-assigned-at-birth, regardless of any other consideration. It is unclear if this is fair or not. Certainly, in Middleweight UFC, no person outside the range of 171 to 185 pounds may compete and win a title. However, any competitor who can manage to shed weight, by whatever means available to them, may so compete. However, a competitor not born female, whether having shed both female body parts and hormonal characteristics, may still not compete against females who were born so. I don't know whether this is fair or not, but the legislatures of the state(s) in question have taken it upon themselves to make that determination.
