How do I become a vegetarian?

I agree Indian veggie food is the best! :D Don't be too harsh on fake meat though, it's good especially for westerners making a transition. or if you're in a situation with all meat eaters. people who didn't grow up veggie can run into health problems because they don't know where to get the protein, B12, and amino acids.

man i wish i could make some decent indian food :(
Lol true... It can be problematic for them. I am sure that they can get supplements.

Even my doctor is convinced it is unhealthy, I have been a veggie since I was a child and he keeps sending me for blood tests to check my iron, b12 reserves, and is absolutely baffled when they come back fine, AND he still tries to me to take supplements and I said no no no.

Why would a veggie lack protein/amino acids?

because people who come to vegetarianism later in life may have no idea how to eat properly. for many meat was the main part of each meal so when that's gone they don't know how to have a balance diet of greens, grains, beans, fruits etc.

Thats the sad part..Doctors of medicine that treat disease arent also nutritionalist..They dont study nutrician .That is NOT their specialty.

I really should bite the bullet... I basically cook vegetarian as it is (minus cheddar wursts--- they are my weakness), because I prefer veggies/pastas/rice dishes anyway, and it would make sense following my environmental leanings. But, it's convenient being an omnivore if I'm going to someone else's house.

By and by, I love Morning Star's Spicy Black Bean Burger. I actually buy these instead of hamburger (gross!).

Update: I just ate some Quorn mince with spaghetti bolognese! It beat the arse off of the meat version any day! On top of that, I feel a hell-of-a-lot less bloated now, and looking at red meat is a bit "bleh" for me at the moment. :D

You're not cooking it properly.
How the hell do I cook tofu properly? I don't think "firm silken" tofu is the kind I need for a meat substitute, right?

I tried to make it the other day and I nearly died, sweet Lord of mercy it was disgusting. :D
Problem is, I have 11 more cartons of the stuff..

You probably want chinese style tofu which you can get braised (soaked in dark or light soy)
Silken tofu is mostly an egg or cream substitute, or for salad dressings or custard I think it is mostly desserts, there is a vegan receipe for pasta though which is still disgusting , because it's still tofu, but I feed it to vegans and their like mmm.

Broccoli - however much you like
Peas- optional
Uncooked penne,3 cups
1/2 cup of de stoned black olives(optional)

Silken Tofu 1/2 cup

Pasta Sauce 1 and 1/2 cup -
Cook pasta and Drain pasta, reserving 1/2-3/4 cup cooking water.
2 Steam broccoli until tender, about 6-7 minutes.
I don't cook the peas just add them when everything is cooked but you might want to
3 Puree the tofu in a food processor or blender, until smooth.
4 In a medium saucepan combine tofu, pasta sauce and enough reserved pasta water to create a creamy sauce. Cook sauce over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until heated through. Do not boil.
5 Season to taste with salt and pepper.
6 Transfer pasta to serving bowl; add broccoli, peas and olives and toss to mix.
7 Top with sauce, and serve.
