how do you feel when threatened with Hell?

YoursTrue

Faith-confidence in what we hope for (Hebrews 11)
Mostly I don't worry about it. I serve God every day, so whatever afterlife there may be will take care of itself.

I do find it incredibly arrogant that some people seem to think they know who is going to hell.
I never thought much about the threat of what some religionists classify hell as. Even before I believed in God, when I read Dante's Inferno I really did think it was at the most a morality story as well as a distorted view.
But later when I learned more about what the word hell meant from the scriptures and translations thereof into English, I see it was an English word used to translate from the Hebrew sheol and Greek haides. It is also translated as pit and grave, depending on translation. There's more but I'll leave it at that for now.

We have a park here that has a small herd as well as elk. It is a treat to drive through and find them somewhere they are viewable. From a distance. They might be less fun up close and thundering past in historic numbers. Like the people of my beloved Ozarks, it's all relative.
We used to have a park with both, but that seems to be gone, now. Probably not enough money to maintain...
I do too. I'm trying, but right now, I'm finding it difficult. No baton twirling or public impersonations. Something a little more spiritual and something that involves my own personal passions. Mostly about bugs.
Well, a Jesus impersonation seems fairly spiritual...

Bugs are fun. Unless they're in your food.

I tend to just graffiti everything. Not in a literal sense, but I turn everything(that is mine) 'pretty'. Lot of spiritual themed stuff, but sometimes just random stuff.

I would think the costs of confining them and ensuring they have enough food in winter are substantial for animals that weigh from 700-800 pounds up to a ton. And probably not the only cost considerations in terms of upkeep.

From what I have read, this is certainly true in the particular case.

I agree. But what if they are the food?

That sounds uplifting in a personal sense, but one that is also shared at the same time.

I hope you have a wonderful evening. Thank you for putting up with my unusual and dour disposition. I've had a few things handed to me that I must deal with and they are not of the pleasant sort. That on top of this terrible allergy/sleep disruption cycle is taking a toll on my disposition.

Our discussion has been a fruitful disruption to my immediately less than stellar disposition. One that I'm very thankful for.

No bugs for me, thank you! But, I'm a vegetarian. Meat is meat.

Sometimes! It makes bringing a person into my home a lot more personal.

You hid your dourness well. I'm sorry life's giving you difficulty, and I hope it stops soon.

If you like, I can kick Life's butt.

I appreciated the conversation!

Agreed.

Sorry, I forget that. I'm used to co-existing with individuals and groups that are predominantly omnivores.

Though I have to admit, that while having partaken, insects as common food would take even me some time to come to terms with it.

I have come to appreciate some of the differences in the avenues people employ in their personal lives to address expression. But sharing some of those forms involves a bit of trust and hope.

Probably with you better than others.

I'll survive, but I'll probably experience the usual difficulty finding much mirth and optimism as it all plays out. Hopefully, I'll find more of that at the end.

LOL! Go ahead. Make my day.
I appreciated the conversation!
I'm glad. That kind of kicks it right there.

For me it brings about an enormous sense of superiority

I think it's supposed to scare me

It really doesn't
I've found that threatening me with hell is a believers way to concede that I have won the debate. It has exclusively been used against me when the believer was running out of arguments. And as I'm not kicking people who are down, that also ends the debate for me.

I had a coworker that used to eat grasshoppers. He took great joy in upsetting people with it.

It does. It also encourages me to make good choices about who I bring in the house.

Though sometimes its funny... we horrified someone who left claiming we had the devil on the wall.

I was kinda tempted after that to add him to the mix...

Did you check the couch cushions?

I probably felt originally bad. Now I understand hell doesn't do anything on its own, so there is no reason to fear it. Only one to be feared is God, because everything is in His hands.

Don't be afraid of those who kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul. Rather, fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in Gehenna [also translated hell].
Matt. 10:28

But, God is good, therefore why should one fear even God? I think there is no reason for fear, because God is good and doesn't do anything evil.

Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, give I to you. Don't let your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful.
John 14:27
There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear has punishment. He who fears is not made perfect in love.
1 John 4:18

So, now, if someone threatens with hell, I feel little annoyed, because I think it is misleading. :)

Not sure any have ever done so but I suspect many might. Since I don't believe in any such concept - apart from suffering being such and as to which I have already experienced enough - it hardly matters what others believe. All it would do is to show that the person has a religious belief that includes this in their particular doctrinal beliefs, and in my view shows they have limited themselves to some particular (mainly unevidenced) belief system. So I would actually pity them - as many others have said too - given that grasping hold firmly of one thing, to me, is the more delusional state to be in.

And what about all the masochists - are they threatened with Heaven.

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
Its still quite cold here.

I dislike the fields... most of our corn goes to ethanol, so I can't look out and imagine we're feeding hungry tummies... just shredding up the land.

Iowa cities can be pretty shabby. There's a few nice ones... mine isn't one of them.
That's true. That corn isn't even edible.

The green juggernaut of fanatics intentionally stealing food from families tables and forcing it elsewhere where it's not even wanted or needed on consumers who additionally are being insulted further by being summarily forced to pay surcharges on it to the big state at the pump.

What a colossal waste.

If Hell is your desire, be sure you will have it whether you fear it or not.

I feel nothing for the most part. I occasionally get excited and even enthusiastic. But mostly I feel nothing.

I believe in the void or an abyss. It's basically just a darkened forest. I love forests, day or night.
I believe you might as well believe in the bogeyman.

About the same as when somebody threatens me with santa not bringing me presents next year.

However, when included in the threat is the sentiment that I deserve to be tortured for eternity and that they are somehow also pleased that I would be, then I am deeply insulted. There's a difference between merely someone "warning" me of the worst suffering imaginable on the one hand and actually taking pleasure in the idea and / or wishing it upon me or believing I deserve such.

Whoever believes in it will not be punished by it and anyone who does not will face the punishment they use to deny.

The Quran shows disbelievers mock it and don't take it seriously.

There are two ways to mock it. Knowingly or unknowingly. To sin and never repent in fear, is a way of denial and taking it as a joke even in the person intellectually is convinced of hell.

Sounds like the idea is more about controlling people than a concern for truth

I'm not scared, there is no reason for me to fear God

Who does such an idea benefit? Quite clearly certain religious authorities. I rest my case.
