How do you honor God?

I've been trying to find my own ways of talking with and honoring God and I was just curious about everybody else on here. If you believe in God, no matter in what sense, in what ways do you try to talk to Him or honor Him?

To get the ball rolling, I'll go first. I talk to God by praying and thinking thoughts directed at Him, and I honor God by trying to be mindful of everything I see and experience during my day.

Hello SFG,

I see you are new here so first I would like to say Welcome to the forum! I hope you find it useful and helpful in your quest.

As for talking to God, same as you, praying and having conversations in my mind. Also, just meditating on Him and the world.

As far as honoring Him, praying and acknowledging Him honors Him as He likes for us to be with Him and have Him in our thoughts. I think most of us like to have someone we love thinking about us. Also, thinking of others and helping them out, or just helping them have a better day is honoring God.

I talk to God through prayer, acts of service to humanity. I honour God by honouring the Manifestations of God such as Moses, Buddha, Jesus, Baha'u'llah etc.

Why don't you wait until he speaks to you first? Once you hear his voice, then you will know who God is.

Revelation 3:
20: Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if any one hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.

The Talmud reports Hillel saying: "That which is hateful to you do not do to another; that is the entire Torah, and the rest is interpretation. Go study." [Shabbat 31a]

I don't believe in god, but ancestral spirits. I honor them by taking care of myself daily. Finding ways to express myself through art, music, and other ways my family has carried passion for from them to me. I offer prayers to family in spirit. Dance and ritual also comes to mind. Without my family, I wouldn't be alive. That's how I honor the spirits. This includes spirits of my environment-of nature-as well. Though, I am still learning how to communicate with them personally.

Main thing is mindfulness: - paying attention to the fact the gods are all around me each and every day. And then, gratitude. Being thankful. But first comes the mindfulness. If you are sleepwalking through your life you can't be grateful for anything as you will not even acknowledge it is there.

That is very good. I do pray to Him five times a day formally in a mosque and with congregation and two times privately at my home. I also read a portion of Quran daily in the morning before sunrise.

Me and my wife honor the Sabbath by not attending church, but instead spending most of Sunday in bed, having sex, drinking mimosas, nibbling on fruit and on each other, and reading the New York Times. And then maybe a porno movie.

I'm Hindu, so I do daily puja, a mystical ritual that involves making offerings, and beseeching God's presence, in a mystical way. Offerings involve water, flowers, fruit, incense, flame, song, and more. Si it's like inviting royalty to your home, and honouring the presence of it. We treat god as though he/she were an hnoured guest. That is the magical way of inviting the presence.

You could be Jewish. Having sex with your spouse is a holy Shabbat activity.

If I may, I honor God by claiming that He does not exist.

And that is, despite appearances, an honor.

Because honestly, when I see things like kids dying of bone cancer, that is the only honor and apology He can receive from me.

I try to recognize G-d's influence in my life and note all the ways He helps me. I appreciate G-d's Creation and try not to take it for granted. I speak to G-d to offer gratitude for all my blessings. I try to improve myself and how I react to people to set a better example.

One thing I don't do is to ask for stuff. G-d knows what I need and when I need it. To me, begging for more is crass.

To be is to be perceived. And so to know thyself is only possible through the eyes of the other. The nature of our immortal lives is in the consequences of our words and deeds that go on apportioning themselves throughout all time. cloud atlas - david mitchell
