How do You Stay Strong in Your Faith?

Some Kind of Strange
In relation to my last thread about new Christians, what are good things for new Christians to do to maintain growing in faith? On a personal level? On a social level?

And how do YOU stay strong in your faith?

Keep going to church. This summer I wasn't able to go to church at all, and by the end of it I almost thought that it was kind of silly to believe in God. But going to church yesterday renewed my faith. Another thing to do is keep reading the Bible and other books so you can develop discern what it is that you beleive. A third thing to do is make and keep commitments. For example, if, through reading the Bible, you decide that God would probably be pretty pleased in you if you did X action, then do it. See what blessings you get from following what he wants from you. Actually seeing faith in action is a great faith builder.

The basics - read the scriptures, pray, and attend church. If you stop doing these things, your relationship with God will weaken.

I would agree with all that.
many Christians are poor at talking about their faith.
Find some one your own age you can talk to and discuss things with.
At the very least you will find questions to seek answers to.
At the best, You will share faith and grow... in God.

That's a good point Terry. Some people have spiritual directors but I think just connecting with a friend from church to share your walk with can help a lot.

I would say going to church and participating in the Eucharist, daily prayer, getting involved in your community (not just your church community, but your local community), Bible study are all part of my practice. When I slack in one or more of these I feel like something is missing. Getting out in nature, listening to great music, reading great books...these are all also religious experiences, or at least they can be, and they also strengthen my faith.

Never leave home in the morning without praying. Never go to bed at night

without praying. Always carry a small Bible with you or at least a New Testament.

:angel2:
Read as many Christian books as you can.

The best way to not slide backwards down the straight and narrow is to be actively striving to climb up it. Like Aqualung said, we need to be have goals and direction. If our goal is to just "be good," we are making things very difficult for ourselves. I think we need to find specific areas where we can really use some work and then focus on them. Focus on who you want to become and what you want to do with your life. Always remember that Jesus can open a way when there apears to be none.

I listen to Hymns, I debate with people, i read books, i got to church, i do home-teaching, I pray with my wife every day, when we get up and when we go to bed. I pay my tithing, I have a picture of a temple as my wallpaper, adn i have temples for my screensavers, I'm going this weekend to get a picture of Christ in the Red Robe for our home, I stay away from places that make me feel uncomfortable, i watch wholesome movies.

there are lots of was to keep your faith strong.

Very good advice, Having a true goal and doing everythign in your power to get there helps so much, because then the goal doesn't seem to distant and so unattainable.
