how does one tell...

this thread was inspired by the "My Revelations" thread in another sub-forum.

so how does one tell if they're being called by a higher being to spread a "message" to others? and how do others determine whether or not this message is dive in origin and/or worth listening to?

is a religious or spiritual message still of value if no one can relate to it?

As for your first question , does it matter ? If the message is good , does it matter where it comes from ?

As for your second question , in my case as long as it has heart , it is a good message , So I would at lest listen .

Sorry . Can't reply to your last question as I can't relate to it ... ;) Just joking . If one doesn'y yet have the wisdom to understand a message , that is not a reflection upon the message , but the person . However , if no one can relate to it , then what is the use of it ?

The terminology you use is interesting gracie. I message is such an abstract way of putting things. The question that raises when someone tells me they are "spreading a message", is

1) why can't the guy in the sky give me the message directly?
2) why is there sacred texts to spread messages if god can use people to spread his messages?
3) why do omnipresent gods need messagers? Omnipresent means everywhere
4) How did the messenger recieve the message?
5) Why are some messengers and others not?
6) Why are the messeges never qualifed or quantifed, why must they always be taken only on faith?

Your ending question in the orginal post is really good.

Kreeden in response to your post: good in what way? what is "has heart?" Do you mean bring emotions when you say that? I would also contest your sentiment that one must have the wisdom to understand the message. You are assuming that the reciever accepts the god in question, on faith, and under the same paradigm as the messenger by saying that. If that were the case there would be no reason for the messenger to try to deliver or in most cases "recruit" the reciever.

I think you can take this question further; how do you know that when you pray, you are not just talking to yourself. How do you Know?:)

robtex-

the questions you've asked are ones that have really held me back from settling with any one faith over the past few months. they're really good, straight-forward questions, and ones i'm always asking when i hear about a faith being "revealed" by anyone.

michel- well, i feel that having faith in a being who can hear your prayers and having faith in a person who claims to be a messanger of that being are pretty different. the question may arise, "how can i know if this person's view of man's relationship to God is any less or more dirrect that my own relationship to Him? should i believe in him and his message or go my own way spiritually?"

First off , you are assuming that I am talking about religion here Robtex . :) I am not . I'm talking about any message or lesson . By " heart ", I mean something that has meaning to the one who hears it . Not just meaning ... but a meaning they can apply to better their existance in same way . And that applies to religion or life in general , as I see it . For excample , one can teach another how to swim , but if the person hates water , or will never be around water , what is the sense ?

I hope that clears it up a little for you . :)

Gracie, I misunderstood your original question, obviously;

"so how does one tell if they're being called by a higher being to spread a "message" to others? and how do others determine whether or not this message is dive in origin and/or worth listening to? "

I thought you to mean that having prayed, how do you know if a message (ie what you think is the answer to your prayer) is coming from God ?
Which is why I answered the way I did to you...:)

Hehe - my answer is I know, because I have faith - which I suppose is not what you hoped I'd say - I wasn't trying to sidetrack Gracie, only make her think...:D

But Michel , what difference does it really make ? If a message is good , or an idea is good , why not just act on it ?

Ok , I realize that Faith comes into play , but why comlicate it ? Hmmm , I think I may already know the answer to that ? :) But I tend to try and keep things simple .

Simplest and most honest answer is: I don't know :). Any other answer would either be untrue, as far as I know, or badly supported.
