How does your belief in a god (or disbelief) benefit you?

What advantages does believing in a god (or not believing) have for you? How does it serve you?

it serves me to have a relationship with God, any other advantage is secondary or irrelevant, in my humble opinion.

It's not a matter of how it serves me. It's a matter of the true reality. God is all there is, rather a person realizes that or not. God is within me, within you. You can run from God, but you can't hide.

In what way?

through his guiding hand in my life, the stuggles that I share with him, and the responses that I get. The burdens I can bring to him, the love I recieve from him. A deeper relationship than any lover.

If immortality were just a lie from the Christian church I would still worship God because to be with him even for the shortness of my one life would be enough.

How soppy does that sound eh?:D

A little bit, but that was the kind of answer I was looking for. Guidance and understanding, I can see the appeal.

I try not to take sides regarding the issue of God, although I find myself ending up doing so on a number of occasions. In general I try to maintain a "default" stance, same as a newborn, to where no such establishment exists in the mind.

The advantage of that is if you can successfully avoid the personal urges to add or subtract to what is being directly experienced, there tends to be less confusion in intrinsically understanding just what things are all about.

It's essentially talking to "...blank....." and being talked to by "...blank...." simultaneously in equal silence, and leaving it as that.

It serves well as a truthful and honest approach. -NM-

Not believing in a Man created God gives me a sense of solmn and humble appreciation for life.It also allows me to think about things rationally, and logically.

It was my learning to disbelieve that had great meaning and benefit to me. Once I satisfied my disbelief there was nothing more to be gained.
