Agreed. In fact, I'd say that America is past that. That Trump is even competitive is a national stain even if he is vanquished.

If there's one silver lining in all of this, if Trump does manage to win, he'll probably screw things up so badly that things will get even worse for the average American, and Trump's support base could quickly wither away. The very flower of right-wing politics will then be revealed to them, and they may end up moving all the way over to the far left. We could have AOC in 2028.

You have a different read on the American electorate than I do. I don't see anybody who isn't already repulsed by Trump moving away from him until he hurts them personally, and even then, they won't become liberal. I don't see anybody who hasn't figured out what the Republicans stand for yet ever figuring that out short of being in their crosshairs themselves, and even then, they won't vote for Democrats.

Such people don't know what the Democrats are or stand for. They've been taught that they're bad in some vague way - perhaps they see them as Communists or some other type of person trying to harm America. That's not going to change as long as conservative indoctrination media is a thing. And if such people ever figure out what's really happening to them, it will be when things are too far along to be reversed. They won't see it until they have a gun to their heads.

The Democrats have removed the federal protection of abortions, they ban books from libraries, they want LGBTQ+ to be constrained according to their ideas about how drag queens and people who want to transition should live, they're coming after contraceptives as well. Only Republicans are willing to protect those freedoms, right?

I know a lot of Canadians now. They're mostly better informed and more empathetic than the American expats here in Mexico, who, as you can imagine by the fact that they moved to Mexico, are more liberal than the average American. They aren't listening to indoctrination media. Neither are the Mexican people, who just elected a Jewish atheist and climate scientist president. You can imagine how indoctrination media would have trashed somebody like her if that were a thing here.
