Paralyzed Cat Wearing Diaper
Paralyzed Cat Wearing Diaper Has "Stolen the Hearts" of Fans, With 73M Views (msn.com)

I took care of my daughter's dog while she was on vacation. After her spending thousands
for various surgeries and medication (alone costing hundreds) she dropped him off for me to care for, giving him a daily injection, pills every few hours etc. It was worth it as he was a happy dog for another few years. The next time he came to stay with me he was wearing diapers. Thank goodness he was a comparatively small dog and a real trooper. In the summer I hosed him off outside, but in the winter had to resort to adult care whips. Finally on the advice of our vet it was time to put him down. She came to the house with a tech and administered the drug here at home and took the body to be cremated. He was 12.
Now our own dog is 12 and has a problem with his hip and can no longer run and play the way he used to. My son put in new stairs to the yard easier for the dog to manage. My husband is extremely attached to Hoagie. It concerns me now as to what concessions he may make to accommodate our dog.

For our last dog, we had a ramp built so she could get outside to do her business. We also took her to acupuncture which really worked - no placebo effect involved and she got monthly adequan injections which also really helped. She beat two kinds of cancer but the third, bone cancer, marked the end. If we did nothing the bone would have disintegrated and she would have been in extreme pain.

We will do anything and everything as long as our dog has some quality of life and that means enjoying being petted, enjoying meals, not in significant pain and so forth. We open our hearts to our pets and act according to what our hearts tell us is in their best interest.

That's exactly how my daughter felt about her dog, Riley. But we are not in a position to spend thousands for care. Right now, we have to find a new groomer. We take him very few months and the last time we were told they could no longer take him because he couldn't stand long enough and there was fear of injury. We're trying to find a groomer with a harness for that purpose. He's always been a problem when it comes to his feet or tail. Have to take him to the vet for nail trimming. He's a big dog,
part golden and border collie.

Our dogs half-sister had an expensive ACL surgery at one point with lots of rehab and physical effort on the part of her human. The 2nd leg wound up needing the same surgery but her human has his own physical limitations and could not do it so she's getting the treatment that's practical now.

We all do the best we can and that's all we need to be concerned about.
