I believe that hope is very important, but only really useful when coupled with faith.orichalcum said:Even in the face of the worst situations, how important is hope?
Hope is so important and essential in our lives. We cannot live without hope. Hope gives us courage, enthusiasm, optimism.... Since there is God to Whom we resort and who answers our prayers, there must always be HOPE in our lives!orichalcum said:Even in the face of the worst situations, how important is hope?

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. 1 Corinthians 13:13
Hope is one of the three interwoven fibers of the lifeline in the Spirit that is critical to overcoming all hardships and setbacks whether they are the result of assault or misfortune. The love of God and our love back to Him along with faith in His goodness are the framework of a life with hope. If we lose hope, the Bible tells us that our heart can grow sick. (Proverbs 13:12)
There are three categories of hope. There are eternal hopes, passing wishes, and hope for events and changes to occur prior to the LORD's return that are linked to His eternal purposes. If all our hopes are anchored in the LORD, His righteousness and His eternal Kingdom; passing earthly hope can be distinguished more easily from hope founded on eternal love and faith. An example of an eternal hope is the expectation and desire for a resurrected body that is no longer subject to sickness, pain, decay or death.
The second type of hope is temporal. This includes passing wishes for things that are bound by the limitations of our earthly existence. Our hopes to start a business or to take a pleasure vacation are examples of this second form of hope. Unless anchored in some eternal purpose from the LORD, these wishes are simply passing hopes. However, the hope for a vacation with one's family that sets the framework for increasing the well being of family love and trust towards one another is certainly a hope found in the third category--it has an eternal dimension.
This third type of hope includes earth-time pre-resurrection events that are linked to Christ's eternal purposes. Hoping that a loved one will enter the Kingdom of righteousness through heart felt repentance and faith in our LORD's eternal life giving blood is an example of this third hope.
