This poll is asking whether you have read any Hindu scriptures. If you have, how many, which ones and which is your most and least favorite. What do you think about them.
If not, would you like to in the future?
Cheers.

Mahabharata is my favorite. I'm reading it now in its complete version, but have read several abridged.

I’ve not even read an abridged edition. However, from having read random parts of the Mahābhārata, I realize that it is so amazing as a treasury of spiritual knowledge.

I read the Bhagavad Gita years ago.

I get the impression that it was the first Hindu scripture that you ever read. In my case, it was also my first Hindu scripture. The translation was Barbara Stoler Miller’s. I had discovered it at a bookstore called B. Dalton, which eventually went out of business.

I will be attending the Deepavali(Diwali) festival this November in Guyana. Do you have any suggested readings I could do in preparation?

That sounds nice and I hope it is an enjoyable time. As to suggested readings, I honestly don’t have any.

I’ve read the Mukhya Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gita, the Devi Gita, the Devi Mahatmyam, and the Narada Bhakti Sutras. Additionally, I’ve read parts of various Puranas. Presently, I don’t have a most favorite or least favorite scripture.

All of those scriptures are informative, and they inspire me to seek the supreme goal of life. Ultimately, I feel that I don’t need to read a lot of scriptures in order to live a good Hindu life and reach moksha. One Upanishad to study and know deeply is enough Upanishads. Similarly, there is so much in the 12th chapter of the Bhagavad Gita though it is a short chapter. I realize that that one chapter is a wonderful guide yet I look through so many other scriptures and hardly use their guidance.

I've read the Principal Upanishads and am currently taking a deeper dive rereading them along with the commentary by Adi Sankara and paying more attention to the Sanskrit in hopes of learning more of the language. I'm currently on the Katha Upanishad, one of my favorites, just starting part I canto II. I'm also currently studying the Mandukya Karika by Guadapada and am on the 4th chapter.

I'm currently on chapter 8 of the Bhagavad Gita with commentary by Sankara.

I'm also reading The Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna translated by Swami Nikhilananda. I'm on chapter 6, December 1882, but I haven't pick this one up in a bit.

Do you know much about the community you'll be experiencing this with(such as, are they Saivite, Vaishnava, etc)?

You could try to familiarize yourself with some of the stories surrounding Diwali. I don't have any specific books to recommend, but if you're wanting a 'crash course', sometimes children's books are immensely helpful at covering the basics.

I've read the Gita, Ramakrishna biography (2 books) and bits and pieces of others. I've also watched videos such as Ramana Maharshi, Papaji and Nisagaratta Maharaj but you asked about reading.

Excerpts. :D
This is one of my favorite Upanishads, the Katha Upanishad. The video provides an overview of the story. The link below is the scripture itself, with Adi Sankara's, who was a teacher and Vedic scholar from the 7th century BCE, commentary.

It's been awhile, but a long time ago I read The Upanishads and abridged versions of the Mahabharata, and Ramayana. Later I read various translations of the Tirukkural, and also the Tirumanthiram (Ramakrishna Mission translation) and Tiruvacagam (Rev. Popes translation, subtitled Love of God according to Saiva Siddhanta) I study my Guru's works daily, and I read Vivekenanda's 4 books many years ago, along with the Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna.

My main book is Life the Great Experience.
