What's to decide? The fact of evolution is as established as the tree in my front yard. I don't "decide" to think that tree is real. I only have to see it to know it's real. Beyond that, the Theory of Evolution seems by far the best explanation we have for the diversity of life on this planet, and is supported by millions of facts.

What "debate"?
AH...
I think I understand...
You use the word "debate" in an attempt to raise creation up to the same level as evolution.

To bad it failed.

Sort of along the lines of people who "debate" that the Earth is flat, that we didn't put men on the moon, or that the US government blew up the twin towers. It kind of reduces the word to meaninglessness.

I doubt many creationists realize that when they repeatedly present simplistic, transparent, dishonest, and sloppy arguments in the face of rationally-minded people responding with articulate, researched, and factually-backed arguments, that they are probably helping to turn far more anonymous readers into "evolutionists" than vice-versa.

I think always having a few posters around who clearly represent how unintellectual and willfully ignorant creationism is, is a great way for readers to see how it contrasts with science, intellectualism, and rationality.

Totally. That is my whole sinister plan - to rescue fence sitters from the temptations of religious fundamentalism by offering a perspective they never encounter at church. Like, for example, the fact that we actually have perfectly good answers for all those "questions that stump evolutionists!!" they hear about.

That actually happened to me as I grew up and was very active in one of those fundamentalist churches that taught against believing in "evilution". When it became painfully apparent to me that I was not being told the truth, I left that church for good and have never looked back.

Good for you! :) Happy to have you batting for the heathens.

I grew up going to church, but it never even occurred to me as a kid that most of the people there believed that any of it was actually true. In my mind, it was just story time with crafts and free choral lessons. That's the kind of kid I was. Worked out for myself at about three that the whole Santa thing was impossible because of the number of houses I was aware of and the number of hours in a day. Jesus didn't even get a look in because my parents left a book explaining where babies come from lying around.

I wonder if all this "debate" really matters at all. It appears to me that most on here are already firmly in one camp or the other. Regardless of info provided or debate points provided everyone's mind is already made up and couldn't truly be changed regardless.

I've never tried a poll so here goes. I hope I do this right the first time
If not could someone that knows how to do this do it for me as I think you get my general idea. Thx

1. Evolutionist
2.Creationist YEC
3.Creationist old earth
4.Theist Evolutionist
5. Truly Undecided

I will explain my reasoning for this later after I see the results which may or may not verify my thoughts on this. Thx
Why is "None of the above" not offered or multiple options?

I chose evolution, but there is no debate. Could new evidence be found that points in a different direction than evolution? Absolutely, this is the way science works. But until such evidence presents itself, evolution is still the best explanation for the evidence we have.

I'm not a fan of the theistic modified version of evolution, though I voted "Theist Evolutionist" because I am a theist and believe that ToE is up to date

Is there even a need (or possibility) of modifying evolution with theism?

Far as I know, there is not even an alternate theory based on theism. Nor is there any need for one, really.

ahh.... The first crack in the theistic evolution stance, which is as anti-science as creationism. I've been warning Christian evolutionists that it will come eventually.

What is theistic evolution?

I think it varies, the belief I hold is that God set up the framework for life on this planet the varying factors that we believe has made life possible and allowed it to take it's course under a natural means at times intervening.

Of course I've also realized that in many ways it makes God appear rather cruel as a large amount of creatures have gone extinct.

What are you talking about again?

Then it is indistinguishable from the Theory of Evolution?

Then it is indistinguishable from the Theory of Evolution?

In some ways it is in some ways it is not.

Particularly while Evolution does not posit the hands of a deity in one way or another, those who follow theistic evolution may believe that there is a reason for the changes that it is to move closer to some form of perfection between man and God.
