How many posts do you read before replying?

If you view a thread on RF, how many posts do you read before your first reply?

If the thread is new, I'll try to read all contributions. If it's a non-debate thread I may just read the OP and then reply.

However, if the thread is already 4 or more pages long, I'll probably just read until I find something that I want to comment on that doesn't seem to have been responded to.

What about you?

I'll read all the replies, generally. (Unless I'm half asleep and don't know what I'm doing.)

If the thread is 4 pages or more by the time I get to it, I usually ignore it. Chances are most of the interesting conversation has ran its course, and you're left with a couple people picking something apart. More power to them, but its generally not interesting to me anymore at that point.

I tend to reply before reading any responses.

The plus side of this is that my response isn't influenced by what others have already said.

The negative is that my response may appear to be redundant.

There are also those that reply without even reading so much as the OP. I've seen so many people here reply to a question in a thread title that has little to do with the OP.

OP: "What is the evidence for the Big Bang?"

Page 15: "The burden of proof is on you to show that waffles are superior to pizza."

I read through shorter threads, longer ones I'll read the OP then jump to the last couple of pages..

If the OP or any of the posts i read warrant a reply then i reply.

Except on some of the joke threads then I'll reply anyway ;-)

It depends on the thread, but if it is over five or six pages long, I tend to only read about four pages. Sometimes I'm curious enough to read more, and sometimes I can barely read any replies before posting.

I don't go by counts. I go by the posts that make me want to reply.
