It's something I never think about. At least until I was clearing off my bookshelf today to move it and got a big whiff of dust that I'm still coughing up 20 minutes later.

You're very observant.I dust bi-weekly.
I've noticed as I've gotten older, there is more dust present, especially around my bed. I attribute this to aging skin and more cells being sloughed off, mainly because I noticed the dust is worse in the winter despite the windows being closed.
I've always been hyper-observant. It's what helped me to excel in the my chosen field. You're very observant.
I tend to be more observant with people than environment.I've always been hyper-observant. It what helped me to excel in the my chosen field.
It would drive my family nuts because I'd walk into a restaurant with my family to dine and see things in the dining room that I knew were consistent with back-of-house cleanliness/food safety issues, and turn around and leave to go somewhere else.

I think what I breathed in today probably signed me up for cancer already.Keeping your home dust/dust mite free is important; the connection to lung cancer is becoming more established. See for example:
Long-term exposure to house dust mites accelerates lung cancer development in mice - PubMed
Collectively, these data indicate that long-term exposure to HDM can accelerate lung tumorigenesis in susceptible hosts (e.g., mice and potentially humans exposed to lung carcinogens or genetically predisposed to develop LC).pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov
I'm still active enough that I don't need dusting. Give me a year or two...It's something I never think about. At least until I was clearing off my bookshelf today to move it and got a big whiff of dust that I'm still coughing up 20 minutes later.

Most days, but sometimes I shower instead. How often do you dust?
On your way to do all that, stop by here...I am closer and closer to a dust free environment. I have made progress. I've pulled out the old carpeting. I have put many things into plastic containers, and I am almost to the point where nothing has to sit upon the floor. This year for the first time I intend to use a steam device to kill all germs and dust mites on many of the surfaces, and I'll carefully open up some of the spaces which still have dead bugs and mouse crap and get rid of that stuff. I will tape over or caulk any cracks that spiders dwell in.
If it can't be cleaned it will be painted. If it can't be cleaned or painted it will be destroyed, replaced or rebuilt. And then I'll take over the world.
I tried something similar but I couldn't find a plastic container big enough for the Chesterfield and it didn't look too good after I painted it!I am closer and closer to a dust free environment. It can't be all that hard compared to cleaning this place up.Taking over the world is a lot of work.
I shall bring a shovel, a paintball gun and an ant farm. That's all I'll need. I'll reveal what these things are for when I arrive. On your way to do all that, stop by here...
