How Often Do You Think About God?

Inspired by a thread in the Theists Only forum, which has limited participation preventing me and many others here from participating, it led me to wonder how often those who do not identify as theists think about the divine.

This thread is open to anyone, including atheists, to share how often they think about the God of Abraham or any other god(s.)

So then, how often do you think about God or god(s)? What evokes this thought? Do you find it productive? Counterproductive? Why?

For me it's practically every day, usually brought about by curiosity in what drives people's actions and behaviors. I find it productive in understanding how people think, how they behave as they do, and decisions they make in everyday life and helps me to better interact with them by understanding and empathizing with their perspective.

In effect the same as you.

The only times i think of gods or God is when I'm on RF. It's not so much God but the wording of the post I'm reading/replying to.

Otherwise God has no meaning to me.
I often wonder what inspires someone who finds no meaning in God to join a religious forum such as this one and participate. I would imagine such a person had to think about God or gods at some point. Why else would they be here?

Depends on how often someone brings up God as a topic. It is very rare of me to think about gods all by myself.

There are several reasons.
I was looking for somewhere to replace my previous forum who shadow banned all non north American users the day after trump took office.

When i found this forum I hadn't read the name but clicked onto a link to one of the non religious threads.

What i found was a breath of fresh air compared to the food fight of my previous forum.

It was mostly non confrontational and considerably more cerebral than i was used to.

And really quite funny, being hooked on humour i signed up. And using a VPN told some of my old forum contacts about it (one of whom is now a mod (although i do forgive him)).

I had no response to that sign up (sad) a few days later i tried again with success.

It was only then that i explored some of the religious threads, often my reaction was "what???"

But often enough it made me think, not of God but of beliefs... I have learned much of other religion apart from my early Christian upbringing including some faiths i didn't know existed.

And of course my short, sharp (and dare i say, sometimes sarcastic) method of debating can be nicely tuned when used against some of the (much) more fundimental members arguments.

But basically it's a fun place to be where most (but not all) members are really quite nice people.

Edited to add a bit of humour

Unless worldliness grabs hold of my full attention by some super-stressful event; I think about God always.

And even in times of being preoccupied with the mundane; once I get a chance to pause, I usually think: “what would Christ do if faced with this challenge?” And then, I try my best to take on that attitude. It does tend to work.

Keeping God on my mind is second nature to me now - I no longer notice what specifically evokes it.

I do not find it counterproductive, no. But faith changes one’s priorities in life.

Not noticed that it is the religious beliefs more than the God thing that tends to get the comments - since it is a religious forum. Whether many will believe in God or not is probably not that important to many who don't believe in such, but it tends to be all the rest that they believe that might get interest and/or comments.

Not specifically about god or gods very often. Mostly I think about the human and other-than-human persons I observe and encounter in the course of a day and consider our kinship and further relations and interconnections. On occasion this might stray into consideration of deity, but mostly that's beyond my comprehension and interests.

Other than that, here on RF, I find myself thinking about god or gods in relation to what others are posting. I'm mostly interested in hearing about their experiences and not so much about their thoughts about their experiences, if you get my meaning...

Although, I must admit, I sometimes like those beer-and-pizza discussions about the nature of things...

I like the concept of a world of deities albiet I believe in none of it. So I do think and play with things like God's and magic and supernatural powers.

It's a feel good thing for me, a sense of mentally being in control rather than being controlled.

As a follower of Hindu nondualist (God and creation are not-two) philosophy, I continually throughput the day remind myself that my Consciousness is eternal and looking through an individual point at this moment.
Keep that practice close, and eventually, you'll find you don't have to. It will come as naturally as not having to remind yourself throughout the day that you're George-ananda.
