the best part of the story is the 'why'.

I was following instructions, and no one ever told me to turn it off before taking it apart. They told me it would spark at me, not to worry, it was just the capacitors. So I did what they said. It sparked 3 times. The third time was really big, and the circuit board started smoking. My boss grabbed the ups, ran outside, and put it in the parking lot where it continued smoking for a while.
