How to easy download youtubes + subtitles
(IF you like to keep a copy of the YouTube+Subtitles on your computer/smartphone for offline use)

Note: *** Never use this for downloading illegal videos *** (thanks @Shadow Wolf)
Note: Mods can MOVE it, if they know a better place to store this
Note: Poll I added to know if such computer related HowTo is appreciated/useful or not; otherwise I keep them to myself:D

A) Download YouTube can be handy, now that YouTube gets more censored, and deletes before you know
B) Download YouTube subtitles can be handy IF you rather have subtitles in your own language
*) I also used it to quickly check the contents of a YouTube, if it contains real info or just bla..bla

A) Online video downloader - Download videos and music for free (to download a YouTube).
Gives the option to install an app "Meddle Monkey" creating a 1-click-save-button below the YouTube

B) Download subtitles from Youtube, Viki, Viu, Vlive and more (to download subtitles of the YouTube; only those that have subtitles of course)
Google creates the best subtitles if English is spoken, and Google just has to translate.
Below example gives crappy subtitles I found out, because Telugu is spoken I think (so not all works good)

All you need to do to get all the subtitles to download, is, to add "subtitle.to/" in front of the YouTube

As an example (I put "h.ttps" instead of "https:", otherwise it shows video instead of this line)
So
h.ttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_o2lsrnN0o
Becomes
subtitle.to/h.ttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_o2lsrnN0o

I'm sorry but I cannot work out what this thread is about.

Is this something to do with using the forum, or just that you want to find the best way to get subtitles to videos that are in another language?

Nothing to do with using the forum

Just wanting to share how you can download YouTubes easily, by using the given website link
Additional a very easy way to download YouTubes subtitles for those who like to store YouTubes+subtitles on their own computer

I was not aware, it's so easy to download YouTube subtitles in any language, so I thought to share it here, just in case someone else is interested
Before I used to install software to get this done, but now it's possible by just copy/paste a link of the YouTubes you like to download (extract subtitles)

I didn't know google did this automatically. I think most subtitles are added by humans.

Subtitles are attached to videos either as streams or separate file resources or attached resources. You can use the free and open source tool ffprobe to find out how the subtitles are encoded.

You can use VLC to edit the subtitles in videos. Some people do this volunteering for various organizations.

If your favorite graphical downloader has trouble you may be able to download your vid by installing the latest version of youtube downloader from yt-dl.org . This utility is commandline only, so you need to know how to use one of the terminals like bash, cmd or powershell. You also have to update it frequently to keep up with changes.

If even yt-dl doesn't work your last chance is probably using wget or similar utility to directly download files from urls. Even this won't work on some videos that are only passed over the net in encrypted bits and reassembled in the browser on the fly. These don't appear as files that you can download.

I know, most people don't know this I think. Hence I thought it might be helpful for others to know
Below .JPG shows how to use this Auto-translate option of Google

I thought You Tube has a captioning feature.

Interesting (to me) snippet.

There is a guy who lives in our village whose job it is to add french subtitles to english language films. He is worried about his job because electronics are taking over.

Not that worried though, he's already been retired for 10 years, the film job is just to keep him busy and prevent him having to go to the bar every night

Yes, YouTube has some great features with subtitles

But YouTube does not have the option to download the YouTube, nor the option to download the Subtitles of the YouTube

Hence I shared 2 links which are handy to do just that

Downloading videos like that is basically no different than downloading them from Pirate Bay. Which is piracy.

Thank you. Good point. Never violate the Law (I added a note about this in the OP)

I used it to download a YouTube from a woman who gave permission to do so
Once I used music from someone else in my video, and that person put in some ads in my YouTube video, and allowed me to use his music

We won't go into depth over the ins and outs of online piracy here, suffice to say that in order to stay on the right side of the law, any content you do download from the web, for which you do not own the copyright, must be for your personal use only. You must not distribute or financially benefit from that content. It must also come with the express permission of the copyright owner.
Is it legal to download YouTube video?

Id still be very careful. A few peole I know and myself have been sent a cease and desist letter over digital copyright infringement for streaming content from a non-authorized source.
