How to find the truth?

Wow! This is my first real post!! Yays!! :)

When life is tough and you feel like you are surfacing. Then you start drowning again ( like they say when it rains it pours) and its starts rain for 40 days and 40 nights. How can you see God's truth? When your judgement is so clouded by doubt and fear...how can you see that thing that makes things feel okay or not so bad. I feel like I am being called into the ministry. However at this point in my life I feel very lost. Can anyone help me a little here?? Or does anyone understand??

Welcome to the boards Hannah. I understand completely what you are going through and I believe that it is normal to go through periods of doubt. I am currently going through the same sort of thing and have dabbled in different religions and tried to study every possible faith. It has led me to an even greater sense of being lost. Sure, I can tell people the different points and opinions of other faiths, but I cannot rightly divide truth from falsehood. I have decided to put my trust in the Bible and see where that leads me. I want to live my life for God and do His work, but at times I feel lost to the truth and God's way.

What are your current beliefs and where do you feel that you are lost? I will help in every possible way that I can although we both know that the blind cannot and should not lead the blind. But I know that there are many knowledgeable Christians on this forum that should be able to help you with any questions that you may have. God Bless you and good luck in your search for God's truth.

Of course you feel lost! You are giving up your life in order to take up Christ's life. You've depended upon your own compass up to now, and now you're having to reorient yourself. I'd say your "lostedness" is an indicator that you are engaging in discernment, which is a necessary first step in determining whether you "have a call" or just a bad case of indigestion.

You need to take some time and "get out of God's way." And very probably out of your own way, as well. Discernment can take years. Be patient. Listen for the still, small voice. It is never wrong.

Hanna-

i would say to take it down a bit... faith and spiritual life are not like a "no believer left behind" apptitude test. periods of confusion and tumult can feel awful and discouraging, but they do pass. Mother Teresa advised those troubled spiritually to "seek Him in the silence of your own heart", as Hema has said. what are you seeking from God, from within yourself, from within others?

Done here.

I don't know. I've just made a major decision myself, and it may turn out to be a mistake for all I know. Won't know for sure till it's too late. However, I was at the point of feeling that I had no choice.

I think that in general, you should only go into the ministry in the same circumstance: if you feel you have no choice. Unless you're a scam artist of some sort, the ministry is a great big pain in the *** a lot of the time, and something any normal person would get sick of pretty quickly unless they genuinely felt, with some degree of certainty, that it was where they belonged.

Thank you everyone for your help and understanding. I find solice to know that I am not alone! So to answer a few questions...

What are your current beliefs and where do you feel that you are lost?

I know God is there and I know he is with me and I have no doubt he exists. I have doubts to why my life has turned out the way it has. I feel I am continually searching for something that I am missing. I recently went to a church camp thing and I felt so whole. The worship just filled me up inside. I decided then that I wanted to teach God's amazing grace to people. Ever since then though I feel like there is something missing that wasn't before. Like my spiritual needs aren't being met!

what are you seeking from God, from within yourself, from within others?

I am seeking wholeness from God, peace from within in myself and strength from others!

I do understand; there are days when I feel totally "disconnected" myself - and, yes it can run into quite a long period.
I feel like I am being called into the ministry

I do too, or, maybe that is what I feel I want to hear................I don't know; I ask for God to guide me, and to help me know what he wants from me, but at this stage in my life, I am needed as a husband and Father. I think that the timing is wrong; I think my "time" will ,come later.........:)

Just "let it go", and relax.

In the Scriptures it states "Ask and ye shall recieve, Knock and it shall be opened unto you"

If you want to know the truth in all things, simply pray and ask heavenly father for guidance, and if you have a real intent on knowing what the truth is, and having faith in Jesus Christ, God will reveal unto you the truth.
