How to stop staring at my laptop screen?

Hi, I just have one wish, to unplug from the web and come back into the real life! Where is my blue pill?
I'm a 21 years old massagist from NY, and when I come back after work, tiered from standing all day long, I just turn on my laptop, and suddenly, it's 2 am. How do you manage to keep your offline life, when you have a pc at home?
My obssesion is icq, blogs, myspace and any web place where you can meet interesting people. Forums are new to me, but I thought to give it a try.

ps: I'm a total newbee at forums, so I'm sorry if posted in the wrong place, just got here and saw this one.. Please be kind to show me the right place where you can just talk with people.

Maybe joining a forum isn't the best possible method towards unplugging. Just sayin'.

I pick up a book instead of turning on the PC (not really any different from a TV in that regard). I go outside and walk my dogs, or ride my bike, or work on my yard, etc. Just say NO.

Hullo pink,

I moved your thread from the articles section into 'General Discussion'.
to know more about the forum rules and guidelines, such as where to post what, check the 'forum rules'. unless you take Engyo's advise to heart, and find yourself doing something else other than expending your internet addiction :D

I personally don't do...myspace, facebook, twitter, icq, aim...etc....I belong to this forum.....I subscribe to youtube...but that's pretty much it. I'm a computer network guy so I'm on a PC all day..so at the end..that's the last thing I want to see. I occasionally pop in when I get home to this forum but I enjoy having a life outside of computers. Try limiting yourself to one or two mediums and as someone suggested.....read some good books...and get involved in the comunity or even go see what your community has to offer in the way of extra-carricular ativities......enjoy...

If I find I'm staring at the screen for too long, or visiting pages I've literally visited a moment or two ago, I say to myself, "Right, that's enough then". And I turn off my computer and find something else to do. Either domestic chores or work, or if I still feel like relaxing I'll read a book, paint some models, listen to some music. It might also help to get a hobby or to learn something new. I'm going to try and learn to speak German... I'd learn to play an instrument too if it weren't so expensive.

What I'm trying to say is, expand your horizons. If you're anything like I was, you probably have the mindset of, "I like being on the computer, anything else is a lesser form of entertainment, I'll just stay on here for a few... more... hours". And so it sucks you in.

So perhaps finding an external hobby or spending more time with friends and family would help.

I agree with Engyo,

If your trying to cut back on internet time spent the worst thing to do is join a forum.

I like being on forums and I dont think its an "unhealthy" way to spend timeThe only problem is the time flys buy.Just like they say time flys by when your having fun.Especially on days that my only alternative is I need to clean the house.Or if I get off and still want to relax as you put it I really dont feel like reading all that much because I read so much on the foums as well as internet news and articles and stuff ..LOL!And I dont see watcing T.V as any better than beign on a forum.

Anyway good luck!

Love
