How to truly repent?

Good question! Repentance is about feelings. How does a person make himself feel sorry? Pray for it. Then expect trials. James 1: 1-8

2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters,[a] whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. 6 But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7 That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. 8 Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.

I can't speak for other religions, but in Judaism, sins are actions, not states of being-- the actions specifically being transgressing the commandments.

So repentance is a formal process called teshuvah ("repentance," but also "returning," "turning around," or "answering"). First, one must admit that one has transgressed. Then one must make a commitment to try and avoid committing the transgression again given the opportunity. If one's transgression involved acting against another person or people, or committing a crime within one's society, then one must apologize to those whom one has wronged, and make any and all fair reparations for the harm one has done (for example, paying back money owed, or replacing damaged property, or breaking off a forbidden relationship, etc.), and accept any consequences there may be for one's actions (losing friendships, being ashamed, going to jail, or whatever it may be). One must offer prayers of confession and penitence to God, and participate in Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement).

Obviously, non-Jews have no Day of Atonement, nor are they bound to the formal process of teshuvah, but it seems to me that the basic model of teshuvah should work regardless: identify what you've done that was a wrong act, apologize and make reparations to anyone you've wronged, try to commit to not transgressing again in the same way, accept any consequences there may be, and offer sincere confession and regret to God.

We hold that God always forgives when sincere repentance is offered. And we also hold that God-- having made us-- understands that as mortal human beings, we are imperfect and fallible: we sin, we transgress, we make mistakes. It's our nature, and God knows that, and that's part and parcel of why He will always forgive us, as long as we seek His forgiveness sincerely. He cannot and would not demand or expect of us that we be perfect.

1-To be true about it.
2- Stop doing it again.
3- You have to regret it. Like you don't say I used to steal ,,,, wow they were good old days. You have to regret doing it.
4- Decide not to go back to the same sin in the future
5- If you can return the rights to people you have done damage do, you should

If what you are repenting for is deeply ingrained (such as alcoholism or any strong desire), then the process might take a while and you might need help. To me the critical decision is that you want to free yourself and that you resolve to turn your limitations over to God.

What religious tradition are you operating out of?

Regardless of which religious tradition you uphold, would you be willing or able to consider practices from other paths which might complement your own? Put another way, are you okay with religious syncretism?

What do you mean by repent? What do you feel you have done wrong?

I hope it isn't. Otherwise I'm screwed (no pun intended, and that was wrong on so many levels). :D

repentance is a 'turning around'

To repent means to realise what you did is wrong, to know why its wrong, to know how God feels about it and to adopt his view of it so that you can turn away from it.

We humans need a 'reason' to do or not do something. So find that reason and that will help you to change the way you view things.... and if your mind is strong, it will guide your actions.

Have you ever hurt someone in your life and felt bad about it and maybe cried? apologized? Now imagine your creator who has given you food, shelter and everything you have in your life, I'm sure you'll feel guilty, sad if you do something to disappoint him. And if not then get to know him by reading about him to develop that sense of fear and love that you need to know your limits and boundaries. :)

• Repentance should be before death over take you /provoke you.

• Repentance should be before sun rise from west

Nasa confirm sun rise from west as result of polar reverse.

Quran ( Allah said) :

And to David We gave Solomon. An excellent servant, indeed he was one repeatedly turning back [to Allah ].
Mention] when there were exhibited before him in the afternoon the poised [standing] racehorses.
And he said, "Indeed, I gave preference to the love of good [things] over the remembrance of my Lord until the sun disappeared into the curtain [of darkness]."
[He said], "Return them to me," and set about striking [their] legs and necks.
