Human Species' End

skills101

Vicar of Christ
Assuming you have no particular religious belief on this, when do you think the human species will end? How will it end?

My personal opinion is that humans will become extinct because of overpopulation.

Current projections suggest that by the year 2025, the world's population will reach 7.8 billion; by 2050, 9 billion. Many ecologists suggest that if the growth of the human population does not slow down, there could be serious and lasting damage to the
environment as well as to the global economy.
-My biology textbook

Before that Industrial Revolution, life was harsh, and the deathrate was extremely high. Therefore, growth was slow. But now that we've got better health crae and medicine, human growth has greatly increased. So, unless the rest of the world undergoes the demographic transition by the end of the century, I believe that the human population will reach its carrying capacity and eventually crash.

I agree with you completely!! As I have stated in other posts, unless we get homosexual marriages recognized, and more kids adopted, and control the population, the limited resources we have are going to be stretched further and further until men are actually killing each other more than they all ready do. One point I have not mentioned in a post before is that we really need to change the way everyone thinks about population. The Government, Churches, Businesses, etc, have drilled it into our heads that population is good, because they all want more income. We need to think from a human perspective and not from that of an Institution.

Someday, the crunch will come. That is, the scarcity of resources will result in declining standards of living even in the most industrialized nations. When that happens, there is likely to be political hell to pay. Much of the social content we see is based on people's expectations that they can increase their standard of living. But what will happen when those expectations are thwarted?

I am sorry abut I am going to have to paraphrase Douglas Adams from his last lecture. He said something like:

We do not have to worry about the earth it will take care of itself, now weather or not we (humans) will have a place in it?

I do not think it will be overpopulation that will cause the human species to become extinct, but I do think it will be the #1 cause of a huge die off. All species go through cycles of over population, but it is only humans that try to fight the inevitable outcome.

As for the end of the species, I think it will be a cataclysmic event caused by some sort of space debris.

Unfortunately, rather than learning from our mistakes, we will try to move throughout the solar system and destroy other planets the way we have Earth.

Super germs could kill us off. Nature has a way of taking care of overpopulation, wars, disease, natural disasters, homosexuality, etc.

Does this mean extinction or a major thinning? Usually with nature it is not a total extinction, but another step in evolution.
