Other humans are overrated

L’infer, c’est les autres (hell is other people) - Jean Paul Sartre.

Jean Paul had a point. But I believe we make our own hell, and our own heaven. Attaining the latter requires love and tolerance of other humans. Not easy at the best of times, granted.

I'm a human. As long as the necessities for preservation of physical life are present, I will adjust to whatever is left. There are things that I'd hate to lose (my partner, pralines'n'cream ice cream, books, a lot more books, music, the great outdoors), but I'd find a way.

Oops. Forgot beer. But I'd still survive.

I've had the dubious but informative experience of living without most Western comforts for an extended period (no tv, radio, internet, very limited telephone, very limited comfort foods like chocolate, soft drinks, drinking water, hot water, etc). It helped distill what I personally need, as opposed to want.

Music, writing and books were more important to me than sport (which surprised me, much as I knew all mattered to me).
And I managed without sex for pretty decent periods of time without any real issues. Just kinda...switched off that part of my brain, I think.
Not to say I wasn't happy to see my girlfriend after a 6 month separation...lol

Also, I like my own company, but the occasional party/social gathering (plus a job where I'd be talking to people daily to some level) helped stop me from slowly going insane.
