I can't stop smoking! #PleaseHelp

YeshuaRedeemed

Revelation 3:10
I am so addicted to smoking, I was raped a long time ago because of my addiction. If you are not a smoker, please don't start! I am warning you now that smoking tobacco is addictive like heroin. It is interfering with my ability to think clearly, and perform my religious duties, but we won't get too much into that. NO one deserves to be enslaved to a substance that has NO PROVEN medical benefit. if there was tobacco tea that people drank, or people want to chew the gum, that's fine, but smoking tobacco is oh so very addictive. i don't know how to stop!

Try nic salts vapes. Try a non-tobacco flavor you like. I've been smoke free for 5 years now.

I don't recommend trading one bad habit for another. I'm still not convinced that vaping is any safer than smoking.

I recommend seeing your doctor. Ask about Bupropion and if it's right for you. I found it to be quite helpful in cessation.

I am a believer in willpower alone, but permanent addiction.
I am now 84 and gave up smoking at 30.
I was smoking and inhaling one ounce of tobacco a day.
I was totally addicted and still am
If I had one puff it would all start again.

The day I stopped smoking, I walked down to the shop bought a new four ounce tin of Tobacco and put it and my pipe right next to my chair in the sitting room. I put another pipe and a pouch of tobacco in my jacket pocket so that I would never be without.
Three years later they were still there untouched.

Ok .. I put on a bit of weight from eating sweets but that did not last.
I went through hell and back for six months. But I am very stubborn when I make up my mind and I held out.
Years later I still reached out for my pipe when I woke in the morning.
It was only when I retired that I finally threw out my pipe and dried up tobacco. the rubber lining in the pouch had turned to gunge.

If you manage to give up you must realise that you are still addicted and will be for ever.
You are in the same position as a recovering alcoholic... it is one day at a time.

To day, all those years later, I rarely think about it and it is far easier now that we don't have to inhale other people smoke in public places.

I have more cash I am healthier and I no longer stink.

Only you can stop smoking, for you I would recommend professional help, you are linking a traumatic event of rape to you addiction of smoking. Many people are addicted to many things and they haven't been raped or associate their addiction with rape. Even though it was a long time ago there is an unhealthy relationship that only a professional will be able to help you with.

Thank you! I will try that.

My brother did it and has been smoke free for years. I need to make the switch too. I smoke about a pack and a half a day.

...I lack will power. And become very unreasonable and upset which seems like no big deal, until you see exactly how aweful I act without nicotine -a true menace to society.

It's actually better for the world that I just keep smoking.

How much per year do you spend on cigarettes? Think of all the money you can save.

It can be hard to get rid of our addictions. It's one thing I recommend meditation or prayer will help with, as it can help us become more patient and have more willpower to push through. If you pray don't pray for the result of being smoke free, just pray to be strong. There will be some hard time, but I know so many who have quit that I think you can do it.

A friend of mine who is a materialist is quitting by thinking about their children, how they want a smokefree home for them to grow up in and mommy and daddy living to older age. I think that's also a good way to do it.

I wholeheartedly recommend Allen Carr’s book ‘Easy Way to Stop Smoking’. Initially I was extremely sceptical but I verify that the book helped to get rid of a habit of 35 years. I have been happily smoke free since October, 2011.

I take every opportunity to thank @Poisonshady313, who introduced me to the book. The following thread deals with the subject.

Best wishes.

I know from personal experience that quitting is hard. I could not for a very long time until one day, from the bottom of my heart, came the thought "I want to live" and that was the last time I ever smoked.

The nicotine gum did help me but really anything that helps you is what you need.

In my experience nicotine therapy works

It's just water vapor and you can choose what strength of nicotine you want, if any. It's safer than smoking tobacco since there's no combustion. If you have evidence that vaping is harmful, I'm open to it. But I'm not aware of any. I know it helped me. I wasn't coughing up phlegm and all gunked up anymore. Now I don't even vape anymore. I'd even recommend smokeless tobacco over smoking as it's less dangerous than smoking, even though there's still a cancer risk. The point is to minimize harm.

FWIW, an acquaintance said he saw this ad, and took
out his pack of Marlboros, twisted it up and threw it in the
trash.

AND, never from then on had any wish for a cigarette.
Not the next morning, not after a beer, never.

He'd smoked for years, tried ever way to quit.
Said that his experience made him realize that all those
times, it was only half his mind that wanted to quit,
and the other side would keep pushing...

But when he really decided to quit, it was over.
There simply were no cravings, there
was no addiction.

Addiction is an odd word for an odd thing.

I hope it works for you. Watch this some time
when you are really ready to give it your
full attention, and let it sink in.

Good luck!!!!

Same thing I described, when it was bottom of your heart,
it was over.
