I had a reality check this morning

Concerning the 10 written in stone.

You shall have no other gods before Me.
You shall make no idols.
You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.

(These are more like statements than Commands)

Keep the Sabbath day holy.
Honor your father and your mother.

(These appear to be suggestions)

You shall not murder.
You shall not commit adultery.
You shall not steal.
You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
You shall not covet.

The last 5 appear as statements, perhaps as an affirmation of the first 3.

God says there is no other God, you can't make idols to please me, and you will not be futile with me, so keep a day for rest, honor your mother and father. Understand that you will not murder, you will not commit adultery, you will not steal, you will not lie against your neighbor, and you will not covet with my guidance.

An affirmation as opposed to commands

I think this was a good way to wake up this morning.

Do you think these apply better as commands or as affirmations of God's guidance?

I go with affirmations, especially considering the NT says the only unforgivable sin is blasphemy of the Spirit. Also, these 10 align well with the Noahide Seven which is for all humankind regardless of affiliation.

They have been labelled commands for centuries and I think 'Thou shalt' language makes them so.
