Yes, I have seen those pics. They are so horrible. I hate people that put those things on the net..it makes me :( and they do it out of sick interest. How anyone can benefit from that is beyond me..some people are just plain sick.

I wouldn't loose my faith in the majority of humanity because of those pics, Druidus. But if I ever wanted proof that a minority of humanity wasn't worth my faith in them, then those pics would provide it.

I looked at two pics; didnt want to see any more. What I don't understand is your assumption that that is the 'moral standard' of the majority?

Personnaly, I think 'the majority' would be sickened by those pictures, and would either feel anger or compassion for the authors, depending on their religious stance, or moral stance.

I'm feeling a bit better now. I was over at link removed, and the genral atmosphere of animosity was choking me. I don't really believe that the majority of humankind are this evil (and I don't care what your moral viewpoint is, this is evil), but the feeling was brought on anyway. Ughh... Those last two photos had me crying... :(

Druidus by and large humanity is good. Mankinds propensity towards a communial atmosphere dicates a cooperative enviroment and I would say that in my personal experience the collective mankind is very good and kind in nature. I didn't see the pictures but you are a really young guy and I can tell you (if you buy into with age comes wisdom) that if you focus on the negative on life with such an intensity (as you appear to be doing on these boards now) you will be driven in a very negative direction. To focus on hate and hurt is to become intimate with it. I have a feeling that it is in our nature to do this. I also think that is why there is so much uglyness in war...because it is an enviroment where strong negativty is the norm.

I think you are a very caring loving person who has a deep concern for the world but if I am right (and I am only guessing) and you are really focusing mainly or exclusivly on the ills of the world....today ...and once every day for the rest of your life (and it gets easier to do over time--one is naturally drawn to this) find something really positive about life and humanity and think about that or be involved directly with that. One needs balance in these areas to keep from being bitter (if too much negative) or apathic (if only good).

Although I didn't see the pics you are talking about Druidus , I likely have seen as bad ... :-|

As Sunstone said .

There is GREATEST within the Human Spirit , but it is balanced with something else .... not unlike Nature herself .

TUBGIRL? Do I even want to know? I know there is good out there, and that many people are good. It's just harder to see at my age, especially at schools. The prevailing attitude towards others is animosity, and although mostly not hate, there is a disregard for the emotional health of others.

We are increasingly isolated from each other and have lost our sense of community and empathy. It is much harder to hurt people with whom we feel a connection - to cheat or ridicule them, to refuse to help. The person(s) who doctored those pics do not feel a connection with the victims.

You're right, the greater evil isn't animosity, it's apathy - disregard for others. Animosity is easy to identify; apathy permeates our culture. This is why I was ranting about the pledge of allegiance case before the courts earlier, not because I particularly care about the pledge. This is (one of the reasons) why I hate suburbs, especially the walled-in kind (ever since I was a kid, I've thought of them as evil).
I want to know who my neighbors are. I want to be connected with the rest of my community. Last week, our neighbors stopped someone from messing with my housemate's car, because they know us and like us. That's a far cry from Kitty Genovese.

I'm sure I wouldn't have been able to handle the pictures, if they were anywhere near what people are saying. If I may ask (please without detail) what were the pictures of? And do they indeed point to needing to lose faith in the majority of humanity, or just some of it?

I asked Druidus to PM the urls to me, because I am a curious cat (and you know what happens to curious cats). I thought that I was already a pretty cynical person but I was surprised... shocked, but what I saw. The pictures themselves are of survivors in the aftermath of the tsunami. They're not graphic in a gorey sense but clearly show people's pain. But what upset Druidus et al so much is the unbelievable captions that someone ... I can't think of a word to adequately describe the person without the use of profanities... had written over the pictures, belittling and ridiculing their suffering in the most hateful ways. I cried when I saw them and am crying again just thinking about it.

Thank you for explaining them in a way that we can understand , without actually having to view them Lilithu . I have to admit that I was wondering myself .

Now I'm not trying to defend it , can't really explain it having not actually seen them . But perhaps it is just that some can't deal with the suffering , like Lilithu says .... or perhaps it is just that there are some really sick puppies out there ....

I understand what you're saying. Sometimes people say/do really mean things because they can't handle the situation - it's a coping mechanism. I actually considered that possibility (anything to explain the behavior) but honestly don't think that's the case here. The comments were hateful - racist, homophobic.... I don't want to repeat them, but just try to imagine what someone might say if they gladly thought that the tsunami was a punishment from God. And then imagine it worse than you could imagine.

I can't find any love in my heart for these people at the moment.

The guy who made the post on another site entitled it "Tsunami Victims Got PWNED". The pictures were completely and utterly cruel, and evil. The people who made them must have had little empathy beyond their family, if that. To illustrate one of them, imagine a man sitting on the rubble of what once was his house, with his knees at his chest and his head between his legs, likely crying. Now imagine some ******* has come along and captioned "PWNED!!!" underneath, as if it were hilariously funny that this man has lost everything. :( Is there no law against this? I generally respect people's rights to say whatever they want to say, but this?
