I lost my faith

About 8 years ago and I had a back operation and I got very close to God and for 3 years I said about 3 curse words and was very faithful. I went to church 5 times a week. I prayed every night. I was never a religious fanatic because I'm a retired computer MIS Manager from Silicon Valley so my thinking has also been logical. I believe in God but not the way others do. I've read the bible 3 times, went to a LOT of classes, studied a lot and really pour my heart into it and I never did understand the Christian religion. Anyway we all have our own ways but after 5 years of not living the Christian way I am pretty upset about it. I tried to go to church for the last 6 months but couldn't because I suffer from depression and have a hard time with interacting with people. I really want to get my faith back before I die because life was so much better when I had my faith and I believe without it I would have died years ago. Well that's my story.

Since you say you still believe in God, then all you have lost is your religion- you still have your faith. I have gone through periods of doubt myself, including 17 years ago, when I found out my son has autism (he was 2 then, he is 19 now). I have clinical depression, too.
The only advice I can offer is to pray. Everyone must come up with their own answers in regards to faith and religion. It is a very personal thing.
Welcome to the RF. :)

I know the road you travel on real well.
Only difference is I had no faith.
Perhaps this is the time that calls for the reflections within you & truly connect with the foundations of the church that for so long supported you wisely & let you be strong!

Welcome to the forum Richard. I hope you will find what you are seeking. At one point in time I was travelling down the road you are. I suffer from Bipolar and OCD ... I felt like I was alone. I am not a Christian anymore, but I have found a path that works for me and makes me happy. Don't loose faith in the God you worship and you will start seeing your path again.

Lighten up.
Obviously it's just a matter of sorting through the baggage.

Your worldly ability is crossing over into your faith.
Christian faith and logic is like mixing oil and water.

Try dropping the dogma. I did.
That should lighten the load a lot.

Believing in God is logical.
Here at the forum your reasoning can be tested...at great length.

Out of the frying pan...into the fire.
