I love Buddha

I have a question. In Christianity having a relationship with Jesus is seen as though he were God. So, the relationship through scripture have to do with his spirit but flesh. So when someone says they love Jesus, it's not the person but who he is incarnated of.

The Buddha was human and not God (any type of spirit). From what I gather it's about practice but belief.

So, if one loves The Buddha's teachings and that changes the person I get. But it makes me think like Christians loving Christ when you say you love the Buddha and more so why.

Do you see The Buddha as a spirit or someone with whom the Buddha is incarnation of?

I don't know how one can love a human they haven't met but I can see God given it's experiential and teachings, but not the person.

Maybe the Buddha and Jesus were one and the same. I know some people who believe something like that.

I wouldn't say. They would have to breach in their major practices and doctrines for that to be true. But as wise people, they may share. Though personally I can't find anything wise in jesus' teachings that are unique. I guess.

I can’t say I love him personally because I don’t have a (spiritual) relationship with him as I do with Vishnu/Krishna, Saraswati, Hanuman, et.al. I love his teachings however. I don’t believe they are at odds with Hinduism in the least.

Does it? I was under the impression different sects taught different things on this, but I am really not knowledgeable on this topic.

"...the term anattā (Pali) or anātman (Sanskrit) refers to the doctrine of “non-self”, that there is no unchanging, permanent self, soul or essence in phenomena. It is one of the seven beneficial perceptions in Buddhism, and one of the three marks of existence along with dukkha (suffering) and anicca (impermanence).

The Buddhist concept of anatta or anatman is one of the fundamental differences between Buddhism and Hinduism, with the latter asserting that atman (self, soul) exists."

You don’t need, in my opinion, to be tied to major practices and doctrines to call yourself a Christian, nor a Buddhist. Those things are just window dressing. The essence of Christian faith can be summed up in one line from the Gospels;

That you love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.

John 13:34

One thing Jesus and Buddha have in common is that neither of them wrote a word. But their followers did.

This world is indeed in darkness, and how few can see the light! Just as few birds can escape from a net, few souls can fly into the freedom of heaven.

The Dhammapada vs 174

For many are called, but few are chosen.

Matthew 22:14

Come and look at this world. It is like a royal painted chariot wherein fools sink. The wise are not imprisoned in the chariot.

The Dhammapada vs 171

In the world ye shall have tribulation; but be of good cheer, for I have overcome the world.

John 16:33

etc

I love dead people/animals. :( Not all of 'em, just the ones I knew and miss.

You are correct. Different buddists sects believe different things about souls and other religious teachings

.... but this made me chuckle:

"The comparison made between Jesus and Buddha is a false one, and while similar moral parallels may appear (if we ignore the surrounding theological context), Jesus ministry and resurrection put him in a category of being Saviour, Lord, and God, while Buddha was just another man with an opinion of the human condition."

What a put down :p
