i am unsure of my religion... again. i have been becoming more and more detached from jediism, ever since becoming a grey jedi, and i am unsure of which religion is right for me. What i find is really, really weird, is that i am taking a fancy to christianity, even though i used to hate it:bonk:. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My advice would be to find the religion that most matches what you already believe and then let the religion build upon these beliefs. Others who have gone through a conversion process from one religion to another would probably be able to give you better advice though. I've never been in your situation.

Good luck with your search!

Well, I never converted anything major, just with christianity, so I had the foundation of the Christian God. Then I just found out which relgion actually knew what it was talking about. Like if you could bring up a seeming contradiction, that religion could explain it all.

maybe stating all that i actually believe would help? I believe there is a god, and that the force is the manifestation of his will in the physical realm. when we die, we go somewhere, but i am not sure where. god created the universe, and then the force to govern it. this force created all life, and all souls of people. God controls the force, and the force controls us. I believe we should live righteously, helping people, and being an all-around good person. I don't believe that we should be all-god fearing, and confess in a booth every little sin. i don't think god will shoot off a lightning bolt if we steal a piece of gum, or take more candy at the restauraunt than we should have, but i think he would be thoroughly pissed off if we murdered or raped. These are most of my beliefs.

I have a idea for you. I called it "My spirtual innventory". My being yours the writer. To make one take a piece of paper or wordpad document and write down everything you believe to be true spirtuality wise. For instance your belief on an afterlife, the nature of God and your existance in the universe. Go a little deeper and under each one write down why you believe this to be so.

Than month by month go through the different religions comparing your list of your personal spirtuality with those of established religions. There will be no perfect match or fit but go through one at a time testing the fit of each.

Good luck to you.

Do you believe in the divinity of Christ? If you are looking at Christianity you have to start there.

i dont really know, maybe i should start reading the bible again? then again, we are all divine, in some small amount. though i think Christ was much more exalted than everyone else.

Reading the Bible would be a good start. I would also try praying. Building faith in something takes effort on your part, but I really believe that if you ask God for his help that he will do his part.

Rob's suggestion was an excellent one.

Also, if I may ask, how do you feel yourself drawn to Christianity? Is it the community, the worship, or some other aspect that's appealling to you? If it's all of these, there's nothing wrong with becoming a Christian again. :) You could always be a Christian Jedi.

They are wonderful! I think we have some of the finest representatives of that faith here on RF.

If you feel like your more Monotheist but not quite sure how to interpret it, look into the many Monotheistic religions of the world. There's a bunch. Deism may be a good philosophy for you, it upholds belief in a natural God through observing nature and reason, as opposed to revealed religions and prophets.

Just a suggestion :)

The Jedi Teachings in many ways sound as if they were taken directly from the Tao.

Perhaps some study of a philosophical translation of the Tao would be of some benefit.

Be careful not to confuse Taoism/Daoism with modern Bhuddism as the two have become quite fused.

Heya Matt,
I find that religion differs vastly in its purpose from person to person. Some people want the sense of community that more tight knit yet widespread religions, such as Christianity, can offer. Others feel more drawn to a structured, ritualised set of rules that they can use to put their lives in perspective such as more fundamentalist denominations. Others want the exact opposite and so might turn to more pagan religions.

You need to work out what you are looking for. The beliefs you have outlined so far in this thread are fairly broad in that they can be fitted with a variety of different religions quite well. Therefore, unless you have something fundamental in your belief system, such as a belief that Jesus is the son of God and died for our sins on the cross or something similar, then you might want to look towards these other religious considerations rather than spiritual and social beliefs.

This is true. And from the beliefs you described, they can fall quite nicely into Taoism. Except for one part. The anthropomorphization of god (Tao). That doesn't fit as nicely.

Let's look at your descriptive post first...

That can turn well into I believe there is Tao, and Chi is the manifestation of it's nature in the physical realm.

when we die, we go somewhere, but i am not sure where.
Quite a Taoist statement. Death is unknown, and there is nothing wrong with that. :D

god created the universe, and then the force to govern it. this force created all life, and all souls of people. God controls the force, and the force controls us.
Tao created the universe, and chi governs it. Chi in turn created all life, and the chi (souls) of people. Tao controls chi, and chi controls us.

I believe we should live righteously, helping people, and being an all-around good person.
The term righteousness may have be redefined for taoism, but nevertheless would still fit very nicely.

Also would fit, except for (like I mentioned earlier) the anthropomorphizations of Tao. Tao does not get pissed, or anything like that. But balance is how it works.

I wish you much luck with your journey, and may it be fruitful.

Fat!?

You can't change who you are. You have midichlorians and that makes you a Jedi. How can you even think of changing this?
