Don't forget presidential vote.
When a normally happy peaceful liberal friend says
she wants "all Republicans to die", I know something
is really amiss with society.

I was going to put politics but decided to leave that out being I use "segregated" in my post.
If I had, in my ooinion someone would have said that's not true.

Political segregation looks rampant to me, eg,
friends & family members disowning each other.

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
I never thought in my time..

I would see people divided, arguing, and in a sense being segregated because of a virus/vaccine.

But its been done with race, gender, sexual preference, etc so I guess its possible with anything.
When people start wondering when civil war 2 is going to start, its an indicator that the divide is now past the point of repairing.

I blame tech and social media and hold it responsible.

One thing it shows, albiet more stable in years past, is just how cloistered the nation was, being intentionally insulated from the truth of how things actually were all along.

It also shows the reason why tyrants oftentimes try to control information.

Personally I'd prefer to know the bitter truth than be insulated albiet an insulated society might be more comfortable being held in ignorance.

Trump would have made ice-cream flavour preference a wedge issue if it helped his base. Maybe he did, it was impossible to keep up.

The idea behind it is the motivation to save the world. So, if one side feels the other doesn't share the motivation people get upset.

Politics adds to it. It's a natural backlash between in my opinion long term affects sacrifices for short term possible solutions.

Our US gov and media divided us.

It's happened before. Before this we've had lots of arguments over vaccines and autism. Before that we had a lot of fighting over the Spanish Flu. And I'll just assume there was a "before that" as well to keep going back for a very long time.

Nothing like whats currently going on.

Yes, we can divide into groups, identify with that group, and the persecute others in other groups. If the differences are very superficial, like skin color, or even subtle, like slightly different clothing even, people can cue on it (if they choose) and segregate and have prejudices.

People can identify with an ideology, and imagine that others that aren't in their group are against them, and so on, until they make it true, sort of, or in part with some through ideological wars until they provoke an opposition, etc.

There's no real cure (that is complete and lasting enough) except that from Christ.

@Revoltingest answered that before I could so I echo his answer that it's happened before.

I agree.

Blaming others gets us nowhere (IMO).
Tis up to us all to mitigate the divide.

There are times when opposing those who are trying to put the world into darkness is inevitable. But it's better to remember that our purpose is to bring light into the world (paraphrasing a Kabbalistic quote).

Bringing light & mitigating a divide just might be bedfellows.

Frankly, I think it's more because of politics as we've lost our sense of decorum and even what "family" is supposed to be about. It seems that we've lost any sense of pragmatism.
