I should tip my hat here first

;) I can't learn anything I already believe true. For me, the issue is more about comprehending the intellectual content of other belief systems. These are complex, with lots of nontrivial literature you have to use English translations of necessarily limited reliability for. Egyptian texts I know best, and to some extent in the original language, are less organized and much shorter. Yet Admonitions of Ipuwer (14, 14) still asks “So, why is every man killing his brother?” Religion and death never be far apart, whether afterlife arrival is reached by natural causes or hastened by diversity of opinion.

Not your average Mormon
It's about time you introduced yourself! ;)

I've enjoyed all of your posts so far and look forward to seeing more of you. It's not often we have two Utahns on the forum at once. Would you mind being more specific about your location? I'm in Salt Lake City (Cottonwood Heights, actually) and am also retired.

Anyway, welcome to the forums. I've been hanging out here over 9 years now and am still enjoying myself. That's a long time for an online forum to hold your interest.
